Another full weekend of car meets, racing in this region as well in Northern California. And there is a bunch of races over in TV Land so the race/car fan buffet is over flowing once again.
CAR MEETS:
• Friday evening, from 4 until 8 p.m. is the season’s final Summit Racing Friday Night Cruise. They are located just east of the railroad tracks at 960 East Glendale in Sparks.
– There is a very different car and truck meet down Wellington, Nevada. It’s the MudFest Topaz. Looks like it could get very interesting and maybe a bit muddy for some.
• Saturday has several car shows scattered around the area.
- Fallon Cars & Coffee has its next meet starting at 8:30 at the Alley Bar. They have breakfast burritos as well as free coffee and donuts.
- Over in Dayton the Pharoahs Car Club is hosting a car show on Dayton Valley Days. There are awards, check in time is 7 a.m. and the cars need to be parked by 9 a.m.
- If you are going to the race Saturday at Rattlesnake Raceway or want to show you car Sonic is having a show. Hours are 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and the shop is located at 2070 Reno Highway.
- Reno’s Evo Club is having a meet starting at 8 p.m. by the Keitzke Starbucks.
• There are a couple of meets on Sunday as well.
- At Baldini’s Casino in Sparks, at the corner of Rock and Glendale, the Northern Nevada Classics is hosting the 3rd Annual Hounds & Hot Rods. Hours are from 9 until 2 p.m., all models are welcome and there are trophies, dash plaques and contests.
- Reno Cars & Coffee holds its second meet of the month, starting at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand at the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.. With good weather the turn out should be great.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Rattlesnake Raceway ends its point’s season with a Friday/Saturday show. Due to the track having been flooded by a recent storm there will be no go kart races.
However two special races have been added and both are through the mud on the infield. One is a kid’s race and the other is for adults so if you intend to do that be sure to dress for this.
• Top Gun Dragstrip has a busy weekend. Friday is the usual grudge racing so it should be $5 for spectators and $20 is a person wants to race. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. until 11 when things are shut down.
- Saturday is when things really get going as they’ll have eliminations for each class on both days as including Sunday’s eliminations to determine the King of the Track.
- Part of the show Saturday and Sunday is the annual “Mopars VS The World.” It’s a money event for those competing.
• To the east Summit Raceway in Elko has two nights of racing that includes the Outlaw Karts. It’s the final race of the season where track championships are settled.
- Gates open at 3 p.m. each night and there are different payouts for each class.
- In addition the Modern Concrete Winged Sprint Tour will be on hand. This is their next to last race as they bring open wheel action to every track the series visits.
• Over in Quincy, California the American Valley Speedway is hosting its final race of the season. Racing begins at 7 p.m. Saturday and the pits are in the trees so it’s a really nice setting.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This weekend the MRANN off-road series resumes as Lassen MC host a one-day Hare Scrambles up in the Dry Valley OHV area. That’s north of Doyle and east of Susanville.
• Closer to home the MX track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway has open practice from 9 until 2 Saturday and Sunday.
• E Street MX Park has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX is busy this weekend. There is practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday.
- Then the track is the site of the OTHG Sierra Fall Series on Saturday.
• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX Racing hosts the 2023 Pro MX Fall Series on Sunday so Saturday should be a practice day.
• This weekend is when the three-day AMA District 36 Donner Challenge happens. There are several different races during the event including an E-Bike race.
They did put out a warning as Cal Trans is doing some paving over Donner Summit on I-80. The best bet is to probably leave early.
• Air Race week the Reno Area Dirt Riders have put together an all day ride and party. Location is at the end of Lemmon Drive past the water tank on the right. Sounds like fun.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Friday gets going on Fox Sports 2 as at 1 p.m. they have Craftsman Truck Series practice and qualifying from Bristol. Then at 3 p.m. the network airs the ARCA Racing event from there.
• Friday begins early on ESPN2 as they show Formula 1 practice at 2:2 a.m. then second at 5:55 a.m. from Singapore. At 9 a.m. www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 show.
-The USA network does triple duty as at 11:30 a.m. they show Xfinity practice and qualifying. Following that at 1:30 p.m. there is NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying and finally at 4:30 p.m. the network airs the Xfinity race.
- Finally at 7:30 p.m. Fox Sports has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Pep Boys National.
• Saturday begins at 5.55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Singapore. Then at 9:55 a.m. www.imsa.tv has qualifying from Indianapolis for the IMSA WeatherTech Sport Car Series.
- Peacock at 2:30 has Race Day Live then at 4:30 p.m. they show the Super Motocross World Championship Playoffs #2. This time it is from Chicagoland Speedwy, a facility that’s been closed for the past two years.
- The day ends at 4:30 p.m. when the USA Network airs the NASCAR Cup race from Bristol. It’s usually an action packed race.
• Sunday begins at 3:30 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Singapore. It’s a night race for them.
- Fox Sports 1 at 9 a.m. has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from the Pep Boys Nationals.
- NBC at 10 a.m. has the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car race from Indianapolis.
- Fox comes on with two broadcasts from the NHRA Pep Boy Nationals. Both are the final rounds with the first running from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. then the second going from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.
Whew, that’s it for this weekend. Since the weather should be great do try and get out to a race. There is nothing like seeing one live.

• With the oval track season winding down now is a great time to order a photo from Grace Motor Sports Photography. An autographed print is a great thank you to a sponsor or a supporter, especially the younger ones.
• If one competes in the Battle Born series, signups are now open for the next round. That one will be hosted by the Rene Old Timers chapter and held at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway.
• If one races off-road in the Legacy or VORRA series the next race is the Gold Rush. Dates are the weekend of October 19 to 22 and sign ups are now open.
• If one has a youngster that races either motocross or in the MRANN series it’s time to check into the Moto Mouth Mini Team as two teams will be selected in 2024.
• Daveys American Racing is usually on Face Book at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.
Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
