DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY: SEASON’S FINAL POINTS RACE

SUSANVILLE, CALIF. (August 12)— The 2023 points season ended at the Diamond Mountain Speedway this weekend. Championships were on the line so there was some hard racing.

The night began with the IMCA Northern Sport Modified feature. When the green waved points leader Tyler Rodgers was on point while behind him Jace Wright, after slowing for a few seconds, began his charge toward the front.

When the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature began points leader Tyler Rogers was chased by second in points Jace Wright.

For a short spell it was a three-way duel for the lead. Then eventually Wright began to run down Rodgers and used an outside pass to take the lead.

At the checkered flag Wright won the race followed by Rodgers and Colton Chew. It was a case of winning the battle but not the war as Rodgers claimed the class championship by a scant two points.

After stopping on the front straight Wright said, “Once I finally found the top side we were able to kind of go around everybody. Roger is hard to catch up to and can’t believe I actually got to him.

“We had that caution come out and I really didn’t want to see that one.  I’m glad we finished the way we did and everyone was pretty clean.”

He thanked his father and another person that spent the past two weeks working on the car. Special appreciation wen out to Diker Painting, Sign Station, Forrest State Finish who loaned him the truck used to get to the race.

The Mini Stocks took to the track next. First on point was Malachi Moya with Stephen Crook and Anthony Hovland giving chase.

On his way to winning the Mini Stock feature Nick Boucher is chased by Athony Hovland, who won the class championship.
At the end of the Mini Stock feature winner Nick Boucher had to hold off Tony Quinonez.

Crook would take over the lead then Nick Boucher used an outside pass in Turn 2 to take the position. Two cautions slowed the pace but Boucher won followed by Tony Quinonez an Antelo Rallo.

Although Hovland finished fourth that was good enough to clinch the class championship. He ended up with 325 points while runner up Addison Humphrey had 299.

When the Street Stock feature began Doug Weeks was on point with Don Deiter right behind him. A lap later Deiter used an inside move going down the front straight to claim the lead.

During the Street Stock feature winner Aaron Flournoy got the lead with an outside pass on points leader Don Deiter

Two cautions slowed the pace but each time racing resumed Deiter was on point. However after the last one Aaron Flournoy used the high line in Turn 2 to take over the lead

Aaron Flournoy takes the checkered flag as he won the Street Stock feature.

After that the chase was on and at the checkered flag Flournoy and Deiter finished in that order.

Looking at the points things get interesting. Don Deiter and Grayson Olschowka were tied with 295 points each. After the tie breaker Deiter was champion, now 10-year-old Olschowka second and Greg McWlly is third with 264 points

When the IMCA Modified feature began Ryan Peery took off with points leadder Wade Kennemore chasing him.

It took two attempts to get the IMCA Modified feature started. After the second green Ryan Peery was on point followed by points leader Wade Kennemore.

Coming out of Turn 4 Peery’s car jumped out of gear and he virtually came to a stop. In the results melee at least four cars were involved. The race was red flagged for the clean up.

Once the survivors reformed the green waved again and Peery took off with Chris Lewis and others giving chase. At the end Peery took the victory followed by Lewis while Kevin Pendergrass ended up third ahead of fourth place Cole Jones.

During Peery said, “Man I was glad it got cut short or something because I was frickin rust. Sorry for the guys I jumbled up on that one.  I knocked my gear shifter out of gear then I had to pull it back in gear. So I’m glad that race ended shortly.”

Then he thanked Susan River Realty, his father and CRT Motosports.

Despite finishing eighth Wade Kennemore won the class championship with 355 points. Although Nevin Kennemore ended up sixth it wasn’t enough as he is the runner up with 348 points, only six back.

Saving the best for last the night’s racing ended with the IMCA Stock Cars. Ten of them answered the green and Terry Kennemore was led with Nick Boucher right behind him.

The was a caution when Madison Hood stopped on the backstretch. Unfortunately two other drivers, that were racing each other did see this; the resulting impact torn part of her car’s body work off and both the other two cars crashed in Turn 3.

Once the green waved again Jeff Olshowka was chasing Kennemore. They spent the rest of the race dueling.

The race of the night was in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Terry Kennemore and Jeff Olschowka had along side-by-side, place swaping duel.

Sometimes Olshowka would get the lead but Kennemore had the top line and powered around him coming out of Turn 2.

Then Nick Boucher caught the lead duo and was after Olschowka. With one or two to go Boucher spun out of third.
