RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY NIGHT OF FIRE

FALLON, NV (July 4) — The 4th of July races at Rattlesnake Raceway are when the track host the town’s fireworks show. They had fireworks in the sky as well as on the track.

Ranger Joe gets air in his monster truck, Air Borne Ranger.

After the heat races ended there was a demonstration by Ranger Joe driving his monster truck Airborne Ranger. After that drivers lined up on the front straight for a candy toss.

Later, during a short intermission, Ranger Joe returned and again jumped some wrecked cars on the infield. It was a crowd-pleasing display.

First on the racing card were the IMCA Stock Cars. First on point was Alyssa Jones but on the backstretch Craig Nieman took over the lead. He later retired due to mechanical problems.

Rusty McMillan is chased by early leader Alssa Jones during the IMCA Stock Car feature.

After a quick caution Rusty McMillan used an outside move to sweep into the lead. While this would be the winning pass he still had to stay ahead of  runner up Marie Curtis and third place Jones.

After the victory photos were taken McMillan said, “It was fun, the track was hooked up and it was hammer down the whole way around.”

Then he thanked his wife, parents, Kevin, Alex, Campbell Construction and everyone that helps make this possible.

Next were the IMCA Northern Sportmods and on the green Joe Wabsis jumped into the lead and started to leave everyone in his dust. An early caution slowed things down then when the green flew again Wabsisws chased by Craig Nieman.

Coming out of the third caution is when the wheels fell off the wagon. Everyone started but the flagman hadn’t waved the green.

In the ensuing scramble the car of Hayden White’s car got launched and hit the back of Wabsis. He would pit then rejoin the fray but ended up sixth while she was out of the race due to damage.

Racing to the win Ray Ballard holds off Craig Nieman in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature.

Up front Ray Ballard got the lead and held off all challengers to take the victory. Kevin Kentopp ended up second while Nieman finished third.

After the race Ballard felt lucky.

Ray Ballard celebrates after winning the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature.

“It was awesome but absolutely didn’t think I’d win. The car started missing and was down on horsepower,” he said. “I just drove, kept it smooth. Luckily things happened in front of me and put me back on the front row and I brought her home.”

Then he thanked Fernley Metal Fab and Machine, Hawk Trucking, Associated Crane, Granite Construction, U First Motorsports and Nevada Dirt.

When the Dwarf Car feature began Dan Geil led for a spell until Joe Frock swept past him. There was a caution when Sam Wren spun at the top of 3.

When the Dwarf Car feature started Dan Geil briefly led Joe Frock and William Christano.

One the green Frock took off and left everyone in his wake on the way to winning for the second time in two days. Behind him a long duel was settled when Geil finished second with Glenn Sciarani not far behind him.

After collecting his trophies Frock said, “Two in a row, track was really nice tonight had a high line and actually was really fun.”

Then he thanked his sponsors, R&J Landscaping, Wild Island, Nieman Metal Works, Diatte Racing Innovations, Zoomaluma Graphic, Voss Fab, Bodies by DBD, Hooked up Performance Products and Wheelman Supply House.

When the IMCA Modified feature began Ty Gamble took off with the rest of the field giving chase. Behind the leader Dave Sciarroni was working his way toward the front.

There was a brief exchange of the lead but Gamble took it back. Once Sciarroni took second the chase was on as the two leaders tore around the track.

In the IMCA Modifed feature Ty Gamble had to hold of a determined Dave Sciarroni right to the checkered flag.

As the laps wore down Sciarroni closed in and they were nose-to-tail then side-by-side for a bit on the white flag lap. In the end Gamble scored a narrow victory over Sciarroni and not far behind Shawn Natenstedt,  who ended up third.

“It was fun, didn’t know how much of a straight away lead I had,” Campbell said. “I saw Dave poke his nose around the outside and thought okay I’ve got to start driving a little harder. As soon as I saw the white flag I said just stay smooth and we’ll get this.”

Then he thanked his parents and wife as well as sponsors Thomas Fuels, Competition Carburation, Ultimate Air, McDaniel Motorsports, Kelly Fabrication and John Campbell Fabrication

When the Mini Stock main began Kent Knisley, in his brightly decorated racer too off with Cooper Lee ane Jorden Riley giving chase.

There was one caution when a car hit the wall at the wall at the end or Turn 4 then the driver drove it onto the infield. Up front the chase resumed as Knisley was holding off a determined Lee.

In the Mini Stock main winner Kent Knisley and Cooper Lee had the closest finish of the night.

At the checkered Knisley won by less than a car length over Lee in one of the closest finishes of the night. Jorden Riley ended up third while fourth place was Colton Blankenship.

“ Want to thank Old Iron, my Mom and Dad, Cooper Lee, Joseph and Shorty. I lost a lot of power, wasn’t sure if he was on me but I’m happy,” he said.

After that race there was an intermission for a very well executed fire works show. The track is the site of Fallon’s 4th of July fireworks. By that time the large crowd had eaten all the concession’s food and most of the drinks.

Two races left in the program when the Street Stocks were ready for their 25-lap main event.  When the green waved 14 cars headed toward Turn 1.

Up front Shawn Natenstedt led the charge followed by Carl Barlow and Jesse Gonzalez driving the only Mustang in the field.

There was a quick caution for a drive shaft one car dropped on the front stretch. That driver had enough speed so he rolled into the pits.

Three more cautions followed. In one of them Samantha Schultz might have been shaken up after slamming into the front stretch. She did drive onto the infield and the medic responded to check her.

Up front the duel was between Natenstedt and Gonzlalez and at times they would be almost side-by-side. Unfortunately contact on the front stretch spun Natenstedt sideways and Gonzalez inherited the lead.

Natenstedt pitted then returned, then moved through the pack to finish fifth. Up front Royce Goetz had moved into second and the chase was on.

Street Stock winner Jesse Gonzalez had to hold off Royce Goetz.

When they took the white flag Goetz was right behind Gonzalez. At the checkered flag it was Gonzalez, Goetz and Randy Boyd.

At the victory ceremony Gonnalez said, “This old man is wore out, that’s what he is. Man I felt bad for Shawn. Didn’t mean to get into him that bad, it was his and it’s a bad deal.

“I knew they (Royce) were there and I could hear them and feel them. But the old girl got her done again.”

Then he thanked Chuck and Laura Davis, Paul, Lori and everybody that has a hand in this car. He appreciated they let him come out and race the car.

The night ended when seven Bootleggers took the green flag. Up front Joseph Keough was on point but behind him Sam Miller was on a charge an had his sights on second place Jerome Kleve

In the Bootlegger main winner Sam Miller chases early leader Joseph Keough.

Not long after that Miller took over second and was after leader Keough. He would use an inside move going through Turn 2 to take the lead.

At the checkered Miller won followed by runner up Andrew Geller and Kleve.

After the race Miller said, “It was a good race, I was going up against some good people. Started off second on pole then they switched our rotation an put us at the back. I had to push my way through the field.

Sam Miller after winning the last race of the new, the Bootlegger feature.

“The track was doing pretty good tonight, better than it was last night. A little rough in one and two, but not too bad.

Then he thanked his parents and his wife as she backs him and is there every night. He also thanked Trey Tailor for letting Miller use his car trailer.

• The track had a two-day show and Monday featured the Pro Stocks as well as the return of the Out Law Karts.

The karts ran their heat races early and one of their main was right after the big cars finished their heat races. The winners were, Hunter Wood in Box Stock, Kayden Williams in 250cc and the 500cc winner was Kayden Williams scoring a double for the day.
