RENO, NV (June 25) — Lovelock Speedway ended June with a double header. There were races both Friday and Saturday evenings and the event was the Coeur Rochester Night at the Races..
After the heat races everyone had a chance to catch their breath and get ready for the feature races.
First up were the Bootleggers. On the green Ryan Parkhurst took off and left everyone in his dust.
Jerome Kleve tried to catch him but slowed with mechanical problems. He ended up on the infield
Up front Parkhurst took the victory followed by Lovelock resident John Flowers in second.
When the green sent the Hobby Stock off on their feature 11 cars were roaring into Turn 1. Up front Grayson Olschowka was on point,
Then Lovelock driver Jeff Elerick Jr. used an outside pass in Turn 2 to get past both Olschowka and Rusty McMillan.
Olaschowka got the lead again but was challenged by McMillian, who used an outside pass to take the lead. Then Olschowka and Brayden Stepper dueled over second place.
Eventually McMillian fell to seventh and Elerick was no after leader Olschowka. One caution would slow things down but up front Elerick was being chased by Olschowka and Stepper.
Going into the final turn there was contact between the leaders. The result was Olschowka scoring the victory while Stepper was the runner up while Elerick slipped to third.
Well Olschowka, who turns 10-years-old in a few weeks, had to be hoisted to the roof of the car so he could celebrate.
Then he said, “It was a fun race. I want to thank my mom, dad, grandma and granddad for working on my car. I also want to thank my sponsors.”
Before the modified feature began one car stalled in Turn 3 and was pushed to the pits. Then the remaining seven cars got into position for the start.
On the green Vince Evenson was on point with Dave Duste Jr. right behind him. Eventually Duste took the lead while Evenson slipped back.
Behind the leader Tyler Jones, Evenson and Zach Cail were disputing second. Eventually Alec Childs moved up and was aiming for second while Cail slowed bringing out a caution.
Two cautions followed and on the green Childs resumed his chase of Duste. Every lap Childs cut into the lead and soon took the inside line.
With two to go Childs saw his opening and took the lead, which gave him the victory. Duste finished second while Ty Gamble was third and Cail recovered to end up fourth.
After the race Childs said, “Had to be patient, worked hard and little by little we ran him down. I just made a little couple too many mistakes and finally we got in a rhythm a finally he gave the bottom up just a little bit and we were able to take advantage of it.”
Then he thanked his girlfriend Brianna, his parents, Area 41 Motorsports, Razor Chassis, M&M Metal, ESB Manufacturing and Coomey Enterprises.
There were only three IMCA Stock Cars so they were mixed into the Hobby Stock field. Then at the night ended with them having their own race, with Grayson Olschowka joining them.
On the green Brayden Stepper was on point and chased by Rusty McMillan. Right after McMillan took the lead Olshowka’s car began to smoke and he stopped at the bottom of Turn 2.
When the race resumed McMillian took off with Stgeppere and Taggart Garland giving chase. They finished in that order.
• On Friday the IMCA Modified winner was Steven Anderson.
Rusty McMillian was the IMCA Stock Car winner while Ryan Parkhurst won in Bootleggers. Shayna Nieman was the Hobby Stock winner.
