AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY RACES

EAST QUINCY, CALIF. (June 3) — American Valley held its second race of the season on a mild June night. Very nice as the track’s pits are in the woods and the Dwarf Cars joined the regular classes.

Only two cars were in the Mini Stock Class. Unfortunately the one Chase Nieman was driving had problems and had to drop out soon after the green waved.

Llily Montgomery takes the checkered flag at the end of the Mini Stock main.

Now on her own and in a car that had been repaired Llily Montgomery proceeded to lay down some laps, which were a good test for the car. She did eight laps and 24.366 seconds was her quickest.

After the Mini Stock main Llily Montgomery is with the track announcer.

“The track was a little muddy, could have been less dry but after getting my new tie rods everything felt a lot nicer”, she said. “I’d like to thank all my sponsors and especially for my mom and dad for pushing me to do it every time no matter how bad anything is.”

When the green waved starting the Hobby Stock feature Grayson Olschowka took off with Don Dieter hot on his heels. By the third lap Dieter was on point as Olschowka slipped back in the pack.

Don Dieter takes the checkered flag after winning the Hobby Stock Main.

Up front Dieter went into cruise as he slowed extended his lead over the pack. Behind him Olschowka’s car began to smoke as he and Tom Haxall dueled.

The first caution came out after contact between Olschowka and Haxall brought them to a stop at the bottom of Turn 4.

Olschowka’s night went from bad to worse as there was a small fire under it and the Quincy Volunteer Firefighters, who are the track’s safety crew, rushed to take care of it while the race was red flagged.

Once the race restarted Dieter was off and running. Behind him Haxall worked his way up to second and the chase was on.

In the end Dieter won with Haxall second and Gary McCulty coming home third. Due to a bum knee Dieter stayed in his car during the victory ceremony.

After winning the Hobby Stock main Don Dieter stayed in his car due to a bum knee. While he could get out getting back in would have been a proglem.

“The track was great, I love coming here, love the fans,” he said. “It’s a long trip from home (Lakeview, Oregon.) but we camp out here so I can’t thank enough all the fans, my wife Wendy and all my friends that help me along the way.

“My car has been on a rail the last few days. It’s been fantastic. Won the main event last night in Susanville, won the heat her and the main so we’re looking forward to the next race.”

Then he thanked Alturas tire, brother’s ranch, Evans Ranch.

Joe Frock on his way to winning the Dwarf Car main.

Only three Dwarf cars took the green after the one Glen Sciarani drives gave up the ghost and was towed to the pits. On the green Joe Frock soon got past Chris Christiano and took the lead.

While Frock was using the high line every now and then either Bill Christiano or Chris Christiano might briefly take the point.

During the Dwarf Car main Bill Christiano and Chris Christiano (6d) dueled for secon place.

Christiano’s would duel for second but the race was Frocks. Bill Christiano was second with Chris Christiano ending up third.

Dwarf Car winner Joe Frock in the victory ceremony.

“It’s always fun to come her at American Valley Speedway we have such great fans,” he said. “At the Dwarf Car Nationals here we had 72 cars and it was fun.  The track was good I stayed mostly all on the top, it was really fun to run up there, just let the car go where it wanted to go.”

Then he thanked his family and sponsors, R&J Landscaping, Wild Island, Diatte Racing Innovations, Zoomaluma Graphics, Voss Fab Bodies  by DBD, Hooked Up Performance Products, Wheelman Supply House. Then he added special thanks to Nieman Metal Works.

There were only three IMCA modifieds that took the green. Chase Nieman briefly led until Chris Nieman took the point. Behind them Bud Walburg brought out a caution when he spun in Turn 2.

Early in the IMCA Modified main Chris Nieman is chased by Bud Walburg.

After the restart Walburg took over second then his car started smoking and he later brought out another caution. After that he pulled onto the infield and dropped out of the race.

Chris Nieman salutes the fans as he takes the checkered flag.

Up front Chris Nieman was in cruise and won the race followed by Chase Nieman.

At the victory ceremony IMCA Modified winner Chris Nieman holds his daughter Chelsee.

“Was a pretty good race, the track’s pretty good, that’s about it,” he said. “The track was really good, smooth you could run high or low.”

Then he thanked Grandma Cheryl, Lonnie, girl friend Rebecca and everyone that helps him.

When the Sport Mods feature began Brittney Nieman was on point with Paul Stephens giving chase. Unfortunately Nieman spun out of the lead bringing out a caution then another car pitted for a flat.

In the Sport Mod main leader Paul Stephens is chased by runner up Jace Wright.

Later in the race sliding into the Turn 3 wall ended the night for Mallary Evenson. One the restart Stephens took off but this time Jace Wright was chasing him.

On his way to winning the Sport Mod main Paul Stephens had a good lead at the end.

At the end Stephens and Wright finished in that order. A steady drive earned Ainsleigh Evenson third place ahead of Jacob Frederikson, who ended up fourth.

After the race Stephens said, “My son Bo, he did all the set up for me, last night about 10 o’clock. I wasn’t going to race but my sponsors wanted to come up. Last time I second here, I love it here.

A delighted Paul Stephens, who has been racing her since the 1980’s in the victory ceremony.

“The track was awesome for me. I was running up here in the 80’s when we parked on the infield, so I’ve been here for a while,” he said.

On the back window there is a humorous saying. But when this Mini was built let’s say that some times quality wasn’t the best in British cars.
