RACING PREVIEW: MAY 11 TO 14

RENO, NV (May 10) — Finally it seems that spring has arrived. Hope so anyway as there are car meets, oval track and off-road racing in our region as well as a bunch on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• The weekend begins the Summit Racing’s Friday Night Cruise. Times are from 4 until 8 p.m. and there also might be music as well.

The Club is having a meet at Sprinkle Donuts on Saturday morning.

• On Saturday Obsolete Irons club has a Coffee & Chrome Cruise-In. Goes from 10 until noon and the site is Sprinkle Donuts located at 3304 S. McCarran Blvd. in the Mira Loma Shopping Center.

• The Reno Elks Club is having a Veteran’s Car Show at their lodge located at 597 Kumle Lane. Times are from 9 until 2 p.m. for further information please call Alan at 775-741-9736.

Big Mama’s Car Show is in Gardnerville on Saturday.

• That same day is Big Mamas Show & Shine Car Show at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. Times are from 10 until 3 p.m. and there will be live music, food, raffles and crafts.

Sparks Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.

• Sparks Cars and Coffee, from 10 until noon, will be meeting on Sunday. The location is by the Starbucks located just off Disc Drive.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Legacy Racing Association is having their next event this week.

• Today qualifying began for the Baja Nevada race put on by the Legacy Racing Association. The start and finish is by Pahrump and all classes, including motorcycles will be competing.

• The biggest race in our region is the annual Western States Dwarf Car Nationals held in Quincy at American Valley Speedway. It’s the 10th annual Dave Richardson & LeRoy Kay Memorial and Thursday is for practice.

Things get going on Friday with heat races and the finals are on Saturday. The track’s usual four divisions are split with two racing Friday and the other two, including Northern Sport Mods, on Saturday.

This Friday and Saturday is when Summit Raceway has its next two events.

• To the east Summit Raceway, located in the Elko area has a Friday-Saturday. Racing gets going at 7 p.m. each night.

Lovelock Speedway has a Friday-Saturday show this weekend.

• Lovelock Speedway has a Friday-Saturday show this weekend. Last event had some great racing so should be a good show.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

The motocross track has a divided schedule this weekend. Saturday is for youngsters and women while Sunday is open practice.

• The motocross track at Ninetyfivea Motor Sports Complex has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday for the women and youngsters. Then on Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. it’s open practice for all classes.

• MRANN is racing this weekend at the 100 and Whatever race. Course is west of Winnemucca. Saturday is for the Pee Wees, Mini Bikes, Saturday Women and Bombers while Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is when the big bikes tackle the long course.

• Riverfront MX will be busy Friday and Saturday as the track hosts a OTHG National event. After that the track will be closed for Mother’s Day.

• This is the last week to practice at Prairie City as the track will start getting ready for the Out Door Nationals the following week. There will be practice fro 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be open.

• MMX should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For some strange reason the track’s Face Book page was closed last summer.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday has Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. airing NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday at 4:30 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck Series from Darlington.

• Saturday is a busy day starting at 10:30 a.m. when FOX has the Xfinity race from Darlington. Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC airs the Indy Car-GMPGP from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Then at 12:50 the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car qualifying from Laguna Seca will be show on www.imsa.tv.

• At 1:30 Peacock will have Race Day Live from Salt Lake City. Then at 7 p.m. the network will start airing the championship round from this year’s AMA Supercross series.

It’s been an odd year with so many of the heavy hitters on the sidelines due to injuries.

• Sunday gets rolling at noon when Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Darlington. The cup teams get to challenge the Lady in Black.

NBC at noon has the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship race from Laguna. Over on CNBC, on a same day delayed basis, starting at noon they broadcast the Moto GP race from Le Mans.

That’s it for this weekend. With good weather on top get out and see a race. Being there live is the best way to see it.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
