A LOOK AHEAD AS SPRING MIGHT BE HERE

RENO, NV (April 23) — Due to being grounded with car problems this will be a bit different Monday article. So I decided to take a look ahead as it appears, knock on wood, that spring has finally arrived.

CAR SHOWS:

On May 6 there will be a Ride and Shine Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Boanaza Casino.

• Well Cinco de Mayo is less than two weeks away and on Saturday, May 6 there is a Ride & Shine, from 8 until 4 p.m., at the Bonanza Casino.

On May 6 is the 10th annual Holy Smoker BBQ and Car Show.

• Also on May 6 there is the 10th annual Holy Smoker BBQ and Car show. Location is at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.

Fuji Park in Carson City is the site of a 4X4 Show & Shine on May 6.

• Down in Carson City on May 6 will be the 4X4 Off Road Show N’ Shine at Fuji Park. Show opens at 10 a.m. and winners will be announced at 2 p.m. and spectators are free.

On May 13 is when Big Mama’s Show N’ Shine is in Gardnerville.

• The following week, on May 13, there is another Show & Shine Car Show in Gardnerville. It’s the Big Mama’s show running from 10 until 3 p.m. so another opportunity to show off one’s car.

• The following weekend, on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20, Hot August Nights has its Spring Fever Revival and Sock Hop. Location is at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. Should be a good time.

RACING:

Virginia City Grand Prix is this coming weekend. Two days of racing on the Comstock.

• Biggest race in this area is the Virginia City Grand Prix held Saturday and Sunday. Start times each day is 9 p.m. with pros running on Saturday and later that day is the Moto Mouth Mini Grand Prix for the young racers.

At the VCGP the front places of a motorcycle indicate which class the rider is in. Here they are.

Sunday’s race also begins at 10 a.m. but unlike Saturday the checkered flag comes out at 1 rather than 2 p.m. It’s all about corrected times and each day riders, depending on their class will have a different color front plate.

• Two regional oval tracks will be starting their seasons this weekend with Friday-Saturday shows.

Rattlesnake Raceway starts its season this weekend.
  • Rattlesnake Raceway starts its season with a 7 p.m. start to racing on Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. On Friday to kids get in free with a paying adult. Saturday is Kid’s Bike Give Away night.
Winnemucca Regional Raceway begins its 2023 season this weekend.
  • To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway is starting it’s season with a Friday-Saturday show. I believe the racing starts at 6 p.m. both days.
Diamond Mountain Speedway schedule.

• Up in Susanville the Diamond Mountain Speedway will have its next race on May 6 with a 6 p.m. start time to the action. It’s also Eternal Image Hat Night.

• Over in Quincy the American Valley Speedway is getting ready for its 2023 season. On Sunday, April 30 there will be a second test and tune session then things get rolling the weekend of May 11 to13. That when the annual Dwarf Car Nationals visits the track.

Lovelock Speedway has its next race on May 12-13.

• That same weekend, May 12-13, is when Lovelock Speedway has its next race.

The Northern Nevada Kart Club begins its season on Sunday, May 7.

• The Northern Nevada Kart Club begins its season on May 7th using Track 3. Heat races usually start around 9 and it’s a full day of racing with two heats and a main.

Top Gun Dragstrip begins its season the first weekend of May.

• The weekend of May 6 through 7 is when Top Gun Dragstrip opens its season. Friday, starting at 10 a.m. is a test and tune session.

Saturday starts the ET Bracket series and after the racing ends there is a pot luck awards ceremony by the tower.

Top Gun Dragstrip is working on speeding up racers getting through the front gate.

Sunday is the second ET Points race. There are a couple of announcements. The first is about trying to get things moving faster through the front gate.

This announcement concerns early pit parking, which can’t happen this season.

The next announcement is about early pit parking. This is due to insurance scrutiny. Please read the announcement.

Next event for Legacy Racing is the weekend of May 10-13.

• The following weekend, May 10-13 is when the Legacy off-road series has its next event. This time it’s called Baja Nevada and all classes are included.
