RENO, NV (April 12) — Well it seems as though spring might be here, hope so anyway. Even if it isn’t, we have a weekend full of racing and things ahead of us.
CAR MEETS:
• Saturday gets rolling at 9 a.m. when Fallon Cars N’ Coffee has a meet. Location is the Alley Bar at 1555 South Taylor Street.
• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand, located by Moana and Keitzke Lanes there is another meet. It’s Reno Cars & Coffee and they usually is a pretty good mix of cars.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Lovelock Speedway opens its season, after being dark for over a year, this Saturday. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Depending on the amount of cars there is extra money racers can win.
• Over in Yerington there is a new OHV park of 1,000 acres. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Farmy’s Off-Road Park is at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
This weekend VORRA will use the new park to stage it’s Prospector 250 off-road race. There are other activities planned so for more information please check, www.vorraracing.com.
• The Northern Nevada Kart Club is now offering full season pre-registration. If one does this they’ll get a race for free. For further information please visit, www.nnkcreno.com.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocycles):
• Saturday has a fun event for motorcycles as Reno Area Dirt Riders hosts the RAD Rodeo. The area is located just north of Moon Rocks and keep checking their page on Face Book for further details. There are a bunch of prizes to be won.
• Big race in our area is the Old Timer Nationals at Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex. Two days of motocross starting around 9 a.m. with three on Saturday and two races Sunday. Brings riders from around the west to compete in this series.
• Looking over the hill Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks.
• No word on MMX but usually they have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• On Thursday starting at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday gets going at 4:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck race from Martinsville. Then at 5:10 p.m. www.imsa.tv has Weathertech Sports Car qualifying from the streets of Long Beach.
• Peacock gets Saturday rolling at 6:30 a.m. when they have the pre-race show then at noon NBC takes over and airs the AMA Supercross race from Atlanta. This is another race inside an oval so have to see how it goes.
• At 2 p.m. the USA Network broadcasts the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car championship from the streets of Long Beach. Another race where drivers need to be inch perfect between the walls.
- Fox Sports 1 at 4:30 p.m. airs the Xfinity race from Martinsville.
• On Sunday at 11:30 a.m. CNBC has the Moto GP race from the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) outside of Austin, Texas.
Then at noon Fox Sports 1 airs the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. The teams now face the challenge of a track called “The Paper Clip.”
- NBC is also on at noon broadcasting the Indy Car race from the streets of Long Beach. It’s another race between the walls.’’
Finally at 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals from Las Vegas. At this track the racers, until the final run, are four wide on the track.
