RENO, NV (March 8) — More racing and other things this weekend but incoming weather could be a factor. As usual there is more racing on TV and the Internet.
Announcement: This Saturday we go into Daylight Savings Time. So be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour that evening, especially if you’re racing on Sunday.
CAR MEET:
• Weather permitting Sparks Cars & Coffee will meet starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Location is the Starbucks located just off Disc Drive at the south end of Spanish Springs.
OVAL TRACK NEWS:
• Rattlesnake Raceway is going to try again as the Swap Meet has been moved to Saturday. Gates for sellers opens at 6:30 then the meet it self, which is in the pits, runs from 8 until 4 in the afternoon. Be sure to check with the track’s Face Book page as weather could change things.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocycles):
• Big race in our area is round 1 of the AMA West Hare Scrambles this weekend. Lassen MC is the host and the location is at the Fort Sage OHV located to the east of Doyle, California.
It’s a two day event and things get going at 9 a.m. Saturday wen the Pee Wees start the weekend. They’re followed by the Girls and Jr. Girls race then the Mini and Big Wheel bikes finish off the day.
Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with a 90-minute event. That is followed at noon by the pro racers and any remaining A/B riders going for 2.5 hours.
• Over the hill Round 4 of this year’s P.R.O Frigid 7 series is slated for Sunday at the Oatfield course.
• No word yet about practice sessions for E Street MX, Prairie City MX or Riverfront. If they happen depends what the incoming storm brings so best bet is to check with the REP Racing MX Face Book page.
• Nothing yet regarding MMX but sometimes they don’t operate against a series like Frigid 7.
• As of when this article was posted there was nothing from the Fernley 95A MX track. I’m guessing, depending on the amount of rain, they might not have any practice sessions. Best bet is to check their page on Face Book.
• For those of you planning to race with BBMX this season sign ups are now open. That race on March 18/19 will be at Winnemucca MX, which is located right beside the oval track.
RACING (NATIONAL & STATE):
• Biggest race in Nevada this weekend is the annual Mint 400 in the south. Things get going Thursday with racing on Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. and there is a live stream one can watch.
Sunday is when the trophies and awards are handed out. For further information please check the website at www.themint400.com.
• Thursday is when, at 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 7 p.m. www.mavtv.com airs Mobil 1 The Grid.
• As usual Friday is slow but at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has ARCA Racing from Phoenix. The day is also a great time to get caught up on events one might have missed. Some sites are www.floracing.com, www.mavtv.com and www.youtube.com.
• NHRA is starting its season at the Gater Nationals and at 8 a.m. Saturday Fox Sports 1 has Qualifying Show #1.
-This week Peacock is carrying the AMA Supercross round from Indianapolis. The Pre-Race part begins at 10:30 while racing begins a 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
- Then at 1:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 presents the Xfinity race from Phoenix Raceway.
• Fox Sports 1 gets Sunday going at 8 a.m. with the NHRA Qualifying Show #2. After that Fox takes over and airs the season opening Gater Nationals from Gainsville, Florida.
- At 12:30 Fox continues and broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Phoenix. This race ends NASCAR’s western swing.
• This is Bike Week in Daytona and at 3:30 p.m. mavtv airs the Moto America Daytona 200. The race was actually run Saturday but it’s a great way to see motorcycles running on the high banks.

• Daveys Amercian Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.
Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
