RENO CARS (4X4) AND COFFEE PLUS PREVIEWS

RENO, NV (March 5) — With the recent snowfall the Reno Cars & Coffee meet was one for those with 4X4’s.

As expected, many of the regulars didn’t want to drive on the slick pavement.

Only 4 showed up for the snowy meet Sunday. And all of them were driving 4X4 Vehicles.

However despite the snow and slick streets, four showed up, including Lance Freitas in his red Jeep. One couple came drove a large Suburban while another couple came in a 4X4 pickup.

One of the 4X4 vehicles is a bit unusual and owned by Randall Chua. It’s a 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Field Master.

Randall Chua stands by his 1006 Mitsubishi Pajero Field Master.

“It’s a Paris to Dakar Homologation model,” he said, “A short-wheel base and what we call in the states a Montero but in other parts of the world it’s called a Pajero.

“This particular model was brought in from Japan has Japan registration on the windshield and right hand drive,” he said.

The Pajero Randall Chua owns is from Japan so has right hand drive. Here he’s standing on the driver’s side.

He added it’s basically stock and is powered by a 2.8 turbo Diesel, has OZ Racing Rally Wheels and 33-inch tires. There is also an outside mirror on the driver’s side and one at the end of the left fender.

“That fender mirror is pretty common in Japanese cars,” he said. “What I believe it to be is that in Japan the roads are very small so it’s kind of tricky to park. They parallel on the left side in Japan so I believe it’s like a parking mirror that helps you.”

After a while the wind started so it was about time for everyone to find a warmer place.

The next meet will be Sunday, March 12 when Sparks Cars & Coffee gets together. As usual things begin at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks off Disc Drive in Sparks.
