RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 2 TO 5

RENO, NV (March 1) — Well March has arrived kind of like a lion. Despite this week’s weather that will be two off-road races run this weekend and, maybe, a car meet.

However what happens this weekend will, in some cases, depend on what Ma Nature sends out way.

CAR MEET:

• Reno Cars Coffee gets the month rolling with a meet Sunday by the Kietzke Starbucks. As usual it starts at 10 a.m. no matter what the weather is. One good thing is that hot chocolate is close by.

RACING & PRACTICE: (MOTORCYCLES):

This weekend MRANN is out in Winnemucca fo the second race of the 2023 season.

• Saturday and Sunday is when the Moto Novo M/C stages “The Awakening Grand Prix,” out at Winnemucca. Location is right by the speedway out there.

Saturday is for the youngsters, V women, Mini Bikes and Bombers. Things get going when the youngest Pee Wees start racing at 10 a.m. then at 10:45 the older but still young racers get their turn.

Then at noon the Mini Bikes, V Women, Bombers and Vintage racers get their turn in a 90-minute long race using 35-mile long course. Saturday ends at 4 p.m. with a Pit Bike race.

Sunday is for the Big Bikes. They start at 10 a.m. and race on a 40-mile loop and a rider must complete one full lap to be classed as a finisher.

• The motocross practice sessions at Fernley 95A Speedway are up in the air right now. Will depend on the weather so best idea is to check their Face Book page for updates.

• Looking over the hill, the Loretta Lynn qualifier kind of chopped up the course at Prairie City so it’s closed this weekend. This means the Sierra OTHG event has been canceled.

• REP Racing has been draining the Riverfront MX track and hope to have practice on Saturday and Sunday. Once again check their Face Book page for updates.

• If possible E Street MX Park will have practice on Saturday and Sunday. Depends of the weather so, again, be sure to check their Face Book page.

• Nothing was posted for MMX Racing so don’t know if they will have practice sessions or not.

In just a few weeks the Virginia City Grand Prix will be here. On line registration is going on now.

• Coming in April is the annual Virginia City Grand Prix and online registrations began Wednesday. Best bet is to get one’s entry in now and for further information please check, www.vcgp.com.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Yes there is an off-road race in our region Saturday. It’s the El Coyote 400 staged by VORRA starts at 9 a.m. and the pits are located at the Lovelock Speedway.

This Saturday VORRA opens its desert racing series out at Lovelock.

The C Punch Casino in Lovelock is race HQ and where Sunday’s awards ceremony happens. For more information please check, www.vorraracing.com.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• The Craftsman Truck Series kicks off a NASCAR weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. On Friday at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the race.

• Saturday starting at 1:30 on Fox Sports 1 the Xfinity race will start from Las Vegas.

Peacock carries this week’s AMA Supercross event. This time it on a specially designed course at Daytona.

This Saturday the AMA Supercross is on the infield at Daytona International Speedway. Track map courtesy – supercrosslive.com.

The Pre Race show begins at 10:30 a.m. while the Supercross races start at 4 p.m. Once can see highlights on www.youtube.com later.

Livestream will air two of the races supporting the Indy Cars at St. Petersburg this Saturday.

Over on www.livestream.com they will show both of the Mazda MX-5 Cup races from St. Petersburg. These are supporting the season opening Indy Car race.

• Sunday is a busy day and starts at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN broadcasts the season opening Formula 1 race from Bahrain.

Then at 9:30 a.m. Peacock airs the season opening Indy Car race from St. Petersburg. It’s a street race where the drivers have to be inch perfect.

The day ends on Fox at 12:30 when that network broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Las Vegas. This is the second event in the western swing for the series.

• After canceling last week’s work party Rattlesnake Raceway is hoping to have it this Saturday. Of course that depends on the weather so please check the track’s Face Book page.

Here are the Moto Mouth racing teams for this season.

• This year’s Moto Mouth teams for motorcycle racing are ready for this season’s action. The team’s name honors the late Bob “Moto Mouth,” Cavakis. Two of the teams, Desert and Mini compete in the MRANN series while the Moto one races with BBMX.

This year’s Reno Jeep Festival has a new title sponsor.

• For you Jeep fans, Lithia Chrysler Jeep of Reno has been named official sponsor of the Reno Jeep Festival. The festival happens on the weekend of October 13-15 in downtown Reno. Registration begins this month so hope to have an update on that later.

Daveys American Racing can be found at 6 p.m. Wednesdays on Face Book.

• Most Wednesday’s at 6 p.m. on Face Book is when one can see Davey’s American Racing. He not only covers racing in the western states but the national series as well.

• Reno Motorsports (RMS) is having a sale on cold weather items like jackets, gloves and other items. If you are going to ride in this weather might be worth checking this out.
