RENO, NV (Feb. 15) — This weekend we have a Jeep trail ride, a car meet and two major series racing on TV. In addition there is an off-road motorcycle race this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• On Saturday the Nevada Jeep Club has the Eldorado Canyon Trail Run. Everyone gathers at the Squeeze in Carson City at 9 for breakfast then the group convoys out to Dayton. Bringing a sack lunch or snack is recommended.
• Sunday is when Reno Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month. The start time is 10 a.m. and the meeting place is by the Human Bean Coffee stand located by Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTORCYCLES):
• MRANN begins its 2023 season north of the Nightingale exit off I-80, which is east of Fernley. It’s the 25th annual Hare & Hound event known as the Ice & Fire 100 a traditional event on President’s Birthday weekend.
- Saturday starts at 10 a.m. with the Pee Wee race then at 10:30 there is a second race for the younger riders. At noon the Mini Bikes/Saturday Women, Vintage and Bomber classes get their chance on a 20-mile long course.
- Sunday is for the big bikes and they start at 10 a.m. with the first lap being 50-miles followed by a second 48-mile loop. A rider must finish the first lap to be classed as a finisher.
• Locally Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex has practice sessions on its MX track from 10 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Over the hill MMX will stage round 5 of this year’s P.R.O Motocross Frigid 7 series. Saturday is practice day and transponders can be rented at the track.
• Riverfront has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Prairie City MX/Hangtown has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Of course this is Daytona Speed Week. Schedule has been shortened but the action still remains. There are several practice sessions leading up to the big day.
The virtually all the events NASCAR has put behind a pay wall except for the Daytona 500. Should be an interesting race.
• After racing in Tampa, Florida last Saturday the series moved back to the west coast. They are making up the Oakland round that was flooded out then after that the series moves to Texas.
Saturday’s race will be on Peacock with the racing starting at 2 p.m. for us on the Pacific time-zone. One can also catch highlights the next day on www.youtube.com.
That’s it for this weekend. Should be good weather so if possible get out to a car meet or, if possible a race. See all of you next week.
REPORTER’S NOTE: Due to being in trouble with Face Book that edition will be posted on Friday.
,OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Saturday and Sunday are Rattlesnake Raceway’s workdays used to spruce up the track. Not sure of the time but I’m guessing it will be either 9 or 10 a.m. and am sure any help would be appreciated.
• On Wednesday at 6 p.m. is when Davey’s American Racing happens on Face Book. He covers all the national series and especially those in the western states.
