RENO, NV (Feb. 1) — On to another month and while there isn’t racing in our area right now that will change in a couple of weeks. There is also some live racing south of us as well as on TV and the Internet.
CAR MEETS:
• First weekend of the month means Reno Cars & Coffee meets from 10 a.m. until noon at the Keitzke Starbucks on Sunday. There is usually a pretty good mix of cars, trucks and sometimes a motorcycle or two will show up.
- No word when this was posted if Sparks Jeeps & Coffee has a meet.
PRACTICE & RACING (Motocross):
• The AMA Arenacross series visits the Reno Livestock Events Center this weekend for a three-day show. Friday is when the pros, and a couple of support groups, take to the track. Doors open at 6:30 with the first gate drop slated for 7:30.
- Saturday and Sunday is for the Amateurs; they get to compete on a slightly altered track. Things get going around 9 a.m. with racing starting in the early afternoon. It’s a chance for the local racers to show their stuff.
• No word yet if the motocross track at Fernley 95A will have practice sessions. Best check their Face Book page at, Fernley NinetyfiveA Motor Sports Complex.
• For those racing in the 2023 Frigid 7 series over in Northern California online registration is now open.
• MMX is a busy track this weekend as they host a two-day District 36 event. It’s the Rumble at the Riverbottom Hare Scrambles. Should be good weather for both days.
• Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday on all the tracks.
• Prairie City still needs an EMT. If that person is found there will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• King of the Hammers gets going Thursday with pre running then racing begins in earnest on Friday and runs through the 11th of February.
The location is Johnson Valley, California located near 29 Palms. King of the Hammers draws from 40,000 to 60,000 people camped out there for the entire 10-day event.
If one can’t make it there the races are on a live feed as is the tracking. It’s a insane off-road, through the rocks event as well as a test of driver and equipment. The site is, www.kingofthehammers.com.
• Thursday, at 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub. The organization is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary
• Saturday is when the Peacock network, at 11:30 airs AMA Supercross Race Day Live. Then at 5 p.m. they show this week’s races from Houston, Texas.
• Sunday is when the NASCAR Cup series begins its series. At 5 p.m. FOX broadcasts the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum. The race happens on a temporary track set inside the L.A. Coliseum.
I’m attaching this weekend’s full NASCAR schedule. Remember these are east coast times so subtract three hours from the times given if you’re in the western states.
• If one wants to see more racing then check out www.mavtv.com or www.floracing.com as they have many different events. For highlights www.youtube.com also has those.
That’s it for this week. If possible attend a race or come out to the car event. It’s a great way to support racing or meet like-minded car people.
Until next week, have a great and safe weekend.
