NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB AWARDS BANQUET

RENO, NV (Nov. 19) — Saturday was a gala evening for those that compete with the Northern Nevada Kart Club. The location was at the National Auto Museum and after a buffet dinner it was time to hand out the hardware.

Once the dinner was over MC Kelsey Nelson started the ceremony. In order to receive a trophy a driver has to have competed in five of the NNKC events during the season.

The Kid Kart class is where these youngsters earn their racing spurs. They don’t race for points and here are the three that competed all season.

First up was the Kid Kart Class. These young racers are from 5 to 8-year-old. They don’t race for points but are rewarded for being out on the track. On the finisher’s podium Jameson Judd, Davey Jorgenson and Hunter Nelson were happy to receive their trophies.

Next up were the top five Junior 1 racers. The age is from 8- to 11-years old. It’s the first big kart class for these youngsters.

Topping the list was Kayden Williams with runner up Jeremy Heath. They were followed by third place Jeremiah Nobles, Noah Nobles and fifth place Cash Prater.

Next age group, 12- to 15-years is in Junior 2 the last class before the big classes. Brooks Anderline is this year’s champion followed by second place Cooper Perez. The next three are Andrew Hitchock, Isaiah Nobles and Carter Knight.

Brooks Anderline is the 2022 Junior 2 champion. He dedicated his title to Joe Senna, who was lost a few weeks ago.

Anderline dedicated his championship to Joe Senna, a teammate who was lost a couple of weeks ago. In fact all the team members were all wearing Hawaiian themed shirts in his honor.

This year’s Junior Rookie of the year is Carter Chaffey.

After that there were two special awards handed out. The 2022 Junior Rookie of the year was Carter Chaffey, who wound up 6th in Junior 2.

Brooks Anderline got another honor when he was named the Junior Driver of the Year.

Then Anderline was given a further honor when he was named the Junior Driver of the year.

This year’s Senior LO206 champion is Issac Bourque.

Next class is the Senior LO206 and Issac Bourque, who also earned the Senior Driver of the Year, is the class champion. Runner up was Giovanni L. Medina followed by Heavyn Hill, Nathan Heath and Steve Dow.

Next up is the Heavy LO206 Class, which has been very popular this past season. Taking her place in the list of women champions is Rachael Williams.

Runner up was Derek Anderline followed by Gage Griego, Josh Prater and Gil Atkinson. This class put on some close-nose-to-tail racing during the season.

Greg Griego is the 2022 Senior Rookie of the Year.

Another member of the Heavy LO206 Class is Griego, who earned this season’s Senior Rookie of the Year award.

Only three of the Super Stock winners were on hand. Edward Atkins (right) is the champion.

Next is the Super Stock/Tillotson Class. Topping the season was Edward Atkins while Alec Beaudoin was the runner up. Next three were Jeremy Clark, Chris Echard and Raymond Smithson.

After that came the TAG Class. This one has been rebuilding for the past few seasons. Used to be a pretty large classs.

Only the first and second place TAG racers were there. William Owen is the class champion.

William Owen is this year’s champion followed by Adrik Owen. Finishing third was Albert Diaz with Greg Garrison in fourth and fifth place Steve La Fountaine.

Another class that has been having good racing is KA100. After missing the first race of the season Deeahme Malone had some consistent runs and ended up with the 2022 class championship.

Nat Sombatsiri was second with Stevie-Rey Rosario ending up third. Michael McMullen and Gerry Altamira were fourth and fifth in the standings.

Unfortunately the 125 champion was unable to make the banquet. However second place Mitch Kennedy (gray jacket) was on hand.

Finally, after some more raffle prizes were handed out it was time for the fastest class of all the F125 Shifter Karts. This class once almost disappeared but lately has made quite a comeback.

Topping the points is Zeke Corson with runner up Mitch Kennedy only 30 points behind him. Adam Auerbach was third followed by Jeff Wamre and Mike Faker.

Then more special awards were handed out. This year there were two the qualified for the Most Improved Driver.

There were two Most Improved Driver of the Year awards given out. Derek Anderline, who races in the Heavy LO206 class was one of them.

One was Derek Anderline, runner up in the Heavy LO206 Class.

The other Most Improved Driver of the year as Junior 2 racer Andrew Hitchcock.

The other one was young Andrew Hitchcock, who ended up third in the Junior 2 class.

This year’s Volunteer of the Year award went to Rachel Anderline.

After that it was time to honor the Volunteer of the Year for their work to help the club. This year the award went to Rachel Anderline.

Finally there was one more award to go,. And it’s a very special one at that.

Karter of the Year is a trophy that every winner gets to keep for a year. Then it comes back and is awarded to the next one. All of the winners have their names engraved on it.

The Karter of the Year Trophy is a special award and the winner gets to keep it for next season. This year it went to Brooks Anderline.

Once he was presented with the Karter of the Year Trophy Brooks Anderline said, “This is amazing. This has been a pretty amazing year for us, worked hard towards this for a long time and it pays off.”

Then he thanked Cole Nelson Racing, IRE, Cash Out and his family. All in all it was an amazing season for the Anderline family.

Next for the club is a meeting where new board members will be elected. After that everyone is looking forward to the 2023 schedule, testing over the winter or maybe traveling to races, and getting the season started in the spring.

Two teams with local riders on them scored class victories and series championships at this weekend’s Baja 1000. Congratulations to all of them.

This year the 400X team, which Stephen Tichenor (right) is a member, swept the Pro Over 40 class for the season and won at Baja.
  • Stephen Tichenor road on the 400X team with Ryan Liebelt, Justin Shultz and Jason Trubey. They were 4th overall in bikes as well as winning the bike championship for the 40 Over Pro class.
The 500x team, which Dennis Belingheri (left) is a member of came back from a crash to win the 50 Over Pro class at Baja and sweep the season.
  • Dennis Belingheri rode with the 500X team. Despite crashing they were able to overcome this and score the 50 Over Pro win as well as sweeping the season.
This weekend is the annual Red Bull Day in the Dirt at Glen Helen Raceway.

• This weekend is the 24th annual Day in the Dirt held in Southern California at Glen Helen Raceway. Sending out best wishes to the locals heading that way.

Want to sharpen your motocross skills. Well the day before thanks giving there is a training camp at the 95A Motorsports Complex track.

• Now that racing has ended there is a motocross training camp for all bikes except the Pee Wee class. Location is at 95A Motorsports Complex this weekend. Good way to get ready for Thanksgiving.

• This Sunday Reno Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month at the Human Bean Coffee Stand. In two weeks, on December 4th, the next meet is going to be a special meet.

While the turn out, considering the cold, Sunday Lance Freitas took time to explain what’s up next. It’s the annual toy drive where they combine with another club on Sunday, December 4th.

Lance Freitas, who is the head of this group was asked about the one on December 4th, which will combine with the Old Slammers of Reno.

“They have a toy drive at the North Winco from 11 until 3. So we’re going to have our normal Cars & Coffee meet over at the Keitzke Starbucks starting at 10 a.m.,” he said.

“Around 11:30 we’re all going to leave there and cruise West McCarran around to Northtown to meet with Old Slammers, drop off our toys and hang out with them. It should be a new, unwrapped toy of any size and all the presents are for the Children’s Cabinet.”
