RACING PREVIEW: JULY 28 TO 31

RENO, NV (July 27) — This weekend starts a 10-day buffet for car fans. There will be car meets, cruises and the kick off or Hot August Nights. In addition there is a bunch to see on TV.

 CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

• This week is the final Carson City Thursday Night Cruises. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at Bully’s on North Carson Street. 

Summit Racing should have its usual Friday cruise in.

• Friday, starting around 5 p.m. is the next cruise-in at Summit Racing in Sparks. The store is located at East Glendale just past the railroad tracks. 

• Friday and Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. each day, is the kick off for Hot August Nights. Location is C Street in Virginia City. The turn out is usually pretty good and there is entertainment and other activities. For the full Hot August Night schedule please go to, www.hotaugustnights.net

• The newly formed Nevada Bronco Club is having its first meet on Saturday. Time is 9 a.m. at the Bully’s Sports Bar and Grill located at 18156 Wedge Parkway. 

There is a cruise planned that might also join up with the Nevada Jeep Club. Looks like these two groups will have many trail rides in the next few months. 

2nd Annual Highway Nights is this Saturday.

• Another Saturday event is the 2nd Annual Highway Nights. Starts at 7 p.m. at the Huntsman Tavern located at 880 Holman Way in Sparks. All makes are welcome for this car show. 

On Sunday the Bonanza Casino hosts “Cruisin for the Cure.”

• Sunday, from 10 to 4 p.m. is when the Bonanza Casino located on North Virginia Street in Reno has it’s “Cruise for the Cure..” Should be a great car show and the funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. 

RACING (REGIONAL):

• The folks working to reopen the Lovelock Speedway announced this week there will be no Frontier Day Races this year. They are hoping to reopen the track with a full schedule in 2023.

  Winnemucca Regional Raceway is having a two-day event this weekend. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening. 

• Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. is when the American Valley Speedway in Quincy, California hosts its annual Fair Races. If one goes early they can enjoy the very nice Plumas/Sierra County Fair, which is right next door to the racetrack. 

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

There are two days of motocross clinics this week. Thursday is for big bikes while Friday is for the younger riders.

• Fernley 95A Motor Sports Complex has a two-day MX summer camp. Big Bikes on Thursday and Mini Bikes on Friday. There should also be practice sessions from 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

Schedule for both night team races this summer.

• The Lassen Motorcycle Club is having its first Diamondback Team Night Race this Saturday. Racing begins at 9 p.m. at the Dry Valley OHV located east of Susanville, California.

• Riverfront MX has a busy schedule starting Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. when the track is open for practice. 

– Then on Friday anyone that is a member of Main Event Moto can ride for free as, from 5 until 10 p.m. it’s a ride night.  

– On Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is an MX Clinic for 50 and 65cc riders. Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice on all tracks. 

• Prairie City has three days of practice. Times are 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

• With the expected heat it would be a good idea to check the REP MX hotline at -775-265-7223 before heading to the track.  

Sunday is the final round of this year’s Summer Sundayz series and it will be at MMX.

• Sunday is when Round 4 of the Summer Sundayz series winds up at MMX in Marysville. 

This Sunday E Street hosts an AMA District 36 event.

• Sunday will also be when E Street MX Park hosts an AMA District 36 race. Online registration is open at www.estreetmxpark.com

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. 

• Friday at 4:55 a.m. ESPNU will broadcast Formula 1 practice from Hungary.  

      At 10 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car Qualifying from the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Then Fox Sports 1 has two races from the road course at Indy; At 3 p.m. its ARCA racing followed at 6 p.m. with the Camping World Truck Series. 

• Saturday gets going at 6:30 a.m. when CBS Sports has the Formula E race #1 from London. Then at 6:55 a.m. ESPN2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Hungary. 

      At noon NBC has the Indy Car race from the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Finally at 12:30 p.m. NBC and Peacock have the Xfinity Series race from Indy. 

• Sunday begins at 4:30 a.m. when ESPN begins its broadcast of the Formula 1 race in Hungary. Then at 6:30 a.m. CBS Sports has the Formula E #2 race from London. 

      At 9 a.m. CNBC has the FIM Superbike from the Czech Republic. Then at 11:30 a.m. NBC has the NASCAR Cup race from the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. 

      Fox at 1 p.m. has the finals from the NHRA Northwest Nationals outside of Seattle, Washington. Then the day ends when Fox Sports 2 has the MotoAmerican Superbike races from Brainerd, Minn. Both are same day delayed with the first starting at 4:30 p.m. 

Whew! This coming week will be cars and more cars as the annual Hot August Nights is in full swing.

There will be cruising in Sparks and Reno as well as cars to see at the Atlantis, Peppermill and of course Grand Sierra. There is also a swap meet at the Livestock Events Center as well as a car auction next week.  

Be sure to attend a race if you can as well as get out and enjoy the cruises and car shows. Have a safe week everyone.
