RENO, NV (July 3) — Two car meets got the month rolling. There was a third but this reporter was unable to attend that one.
Reno Cars & Coffee had its first meet of the month by the Keitzke Starbucks. As usual there was a mix of cars and some trucks.
As expected there were a couple of Corvette rows. And one of them had a special Vette. Sparks resident Ken Anderson is the proud owner of a 2008 Indy Pace Car Corvette that comes with all logos on the doors.
“They only made 500 of them and this is number 203,” he said. “It’s a beautiful car and I got it two weeks ago. Fun to drive, only has 44,000 miles on it. And it’s got a 6-speed transmission so I’m going to leave it the way it is.”
He pointed out that Will Cooksey autographed one of the valve covers. Cooksey was the original owner and the plant manager at Bowling Green.
Anderson added he has a 2010 Corvette Roadster that came with paddle shifting, which he also likes. Then he said, “All Corvettes are fun.”
There is also an international flavor to these meets. In one row there was a VW Beetle, Corvette and Porsche parked side by side.
Over at one end was another car, doesn’t look fancy but it’s been built out for drifting. That car is a ’89 Nissan 240SX owned by Jacob Hughes.
“It’s a S13 Chassis with a R33 motor and transmission from a Nissan Skyline,” he said. “It’s paired up with a Wiseab steering kit, which is quicker and has more angle as well, top of the line. The car has coil overs, a handbrake kit as well as a rear caliper set up.”
Asked how it handled Hughes said, “it’s very rear end happy and loves to go sideways.” Needless to say he’s looking to do more drifting in the future with this car.
In the mix there was an European duo where a Citroen was parked beside a Porsche.
The Cars & Coffee meets have a great variety of cars for people to look at. While there were many taking pictures of the cars if one goes to the Reno Cars & Coffee Face Book page within the next day or two, Lance Freitas will have posted his. He takes really great pictures at these meets.
• This weekend Baldini’s Casino in Sparks had a BBQ completion with a car show. Most of the cookers were only there Saturday but even on Sunday several people had their cars on display.
Two El Caminos were parked side-by-side. Both almost looking like they had just rolled off the dealer’s lot.
There was also a Roadster row with several examples.
Another row had American iron with a jeep flying the flag at one of it. On both days awards came from People’s Choice and were given to the owners of the cars people liked the most.
• There was another car display at McKinley Park but sadly was unable to attend due to things that had to be completed.

• With school out, and if you are in Northern California or Nevada E Street MX is having a motocross clinic for youngsters this week. The times is from 9 until2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. Signups are online at www.mxclinic.com.

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. In northwest Nevada, it can be heard over the air at 1060 AM.
