RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: MEMORIAL DAY RACES

FALLON, NV (May 29) — Celebrating Memorial Day weekend Rattlesnake Raceway had a Saturday/Sunday show on the oval. The afternoon show had some drivers coming from Susanville to race.

First up was the Bootlegger class and when their main started Wade Lumsden was on point with Logan Sage chasing him. A quick caution happened but on the restart Lumsden was still leading.

Moving up through the pack was Bob Vanden, who soon took third from Ryan Parkhurst. Then he set his sights on the lead duo.

After another caution Lumsden was under challenge from Vaden, who eventually used an outside pass in Turn 1 to take the lead. The next caution came when Sage spun in turn 2.

In the Bootleggers main winner Bob Vaden gets past Wade Lumsden.

On the restart Vaden took off and left everyone in his dust. He claimed the victory and behind him Taggart Garland took over second dropping Lumsden to third.

Before racing began Vaden told this reporter he’s having a lot fun racing in this class.

Next up were the Hobby Stocks and 11 of them took the green. Up front Dan Dias was on point followed by Shane Boyd and Victor Richey.

Dan Dias dominated the Hobby Stock main. Here he’s being chased but they never caught him.

Two cautions slowed the pace but on every restart Dias was in command as he distanced himself from the others. In the end he won followed by Boyd and Richey, who came back from a flat tire that had to be changed.

Gen-X or Mini Stocks were next to race. A dozen of them took the green with Jorden Riley on point with Kent Knisley in second.

An early caution happened when the 420 truck of Daniel Kieve hit the wall coming out of Turn 4. It took a bit to get the racer towed to the pits and the race was stopped for a bit to allow the track crew to deal with the wreck.

Eventual Mini Stock winner had to battle with Cooper Lee (81) for the lead.

On the restart Riley and Knisley took off. Then caution waved again when a car lost it’s right front wheel. Soon after the restart another car lost a wheel in the same area.

By now, due to the long clean up only six laps had been completed so the officials cut the race to 15-laps. When the green waved again Doug Hast was on point.

It was shot lived as Riley took the lead back and would score the victory. Behind him Kinsley finished second ahead of third place Colton Blankenship.

Stuart Satathite won the Sports Mod main.

There were only five Sport Mods that took the green. Up front Stuart Satathite was on point but he was soon was being chases by Shayna Nieman. In the end Satathite was able to hold his lead and finished with the victory. Behind him Nieman came home second while Kevin Kentopp ended up third.

Five IMCA Modifieds took the green and Wade Lumsden was on point. Not far behind was Travis White giving chase. The only caution came after there was a spin involved two cars in turn 2.

Both pitted and while Zach Cail was able to get a tire changed and return the car of Jason Pestka was out for the race. On the restart Lumsden and White led as the chase got intense.

During the IMCA Modified main early leader Wade Lumsden (8) and eventual winner Travis White had a several lap duel.

For several laps they would be side-by-side but finally White got the lead. At the checkered White was the winner with Lumsden second and Michael Anderson finishing third.

Travis White takes a victory lap after winning the IMCA Main.

Back in the pits White said, “We got it done. The track was a little bit slick but it was good. We liked it, could have been a little bit smoother and wetter but this is the desert so you get used to it.

Then he thanked T.K. Racing, Terry Kleeve, the Kleve boys, his father and Dave White.

The IMCA Stock Car classis becoming popular and on this night, with some racers that came in from Susanville 11 of them took the green. Up front Jeff Olschowka led Mikki Beuchat, who soon took the lead while Olschowka slipped back to third.

Eventually it became a three-way duel for the lead. Three cautions slowed the pace including one scramble in Turn 3.

During the IMCA Stock Car main eventual winner Kevin Roberts got past leader in the final laps of the race.

By then Kevin Roberts was moving up and had leader Beuchat in his sights. After the final caution there were three laps to go and that’s when Roberts made his move.

Getting the inside line he took the lead on the front straight. In the end it was Roberts winning followed by Beuchat, Joseph Tardio and Olschowka in fourth.

The IMCA Stock Cars ended the weekend’s racing. Here Kevin Roberts takes the final checkered flag of the weekend.

After the race Roberts said, “I was just trying to take it easy going through there because I knew it was going to be a little bit of a mad house. As soon as I hit the track and hammering down you could tell I had a good car.

“I knew if I was patient and stayed out of accidents knew I was going to end up there in the first couple of places for sure. That track was dry slick in the heat race in spots and all of a sudden they brought it back. It was an awesome track.”

Then he thanked Danny Asher, his pit guy, Christian and Nancy his wife.

• There was a full program Friday night as well.  The winners were Zach Cail in IMCA Modifieds, Shayna Nieman in Sport Mods and Mikki Beuchat in IMCA Stock Cars. The Mini Stock winner was Travis Showe, in Hobby Stocks it was Jesse Gonzalez and Ray Blankenship won in the Bootleggers Class.

Now those from out of town are headed back home and everyone was planning on enjoying Memorial Day Monday.
