RENO, NV (April 10) — As April gets ready to exit there is another weekend jam packed with something for about any race fan. The stormy weather should exit our area by Friday evening and it’ll be time for racing to begin.
CAR MEETS:
• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. and running until noon. Location is the Starbucks on Disc Drive.
• Carson Cars & Coffee also has a meet, starts at 10 a.m. and the location is 3300 U.S. Highway 50 in East Carson. Both meets should be blessed with good weather this weekend.
• Starting at noon on Sunday the Fairlane Club of America will have a mini-meet in Sparks. Location is the Ant Space located at 1925 E. Prater Way in Sparks. This was a popular Ford line and should be some great cars on display.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):
• Both motocross tracks at Fernley 95A Motorsport Complex should be open this weekend. Times will be 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Over the hill E Street MX Park has practice on both the front and back tracks. Times are 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX Racing will have a big weekend as they host the 2022 CZ World Champions. It’s two days of vintage Motocross racing.
• No word from REP Racing but the hotline did say there won’t be practice at Riverfront on Thursday due to the incoming story. Best bet for Saturday and Sunday is to check the hotline at 1-775-265-7223.
RACING (REGIONAL 4-WHEEL):
• Round 3 of the Reno Rallycross season is on Saturday. Gates open at 8 a.m. then at 9:30 a.m. there is a driver’s meeting and track walk. Finally at 10:30 a.m. the morning runs will begin.
Location is the Reno-Fernley Raceway, it’s the road course so one uses the same entry road if they were going to the oval or motocross tracks. But just keep going until they reach the road course.
The organization could also use some volunteer help. There are various positions to help in and I believe a free lunch is offered.
• To the east Rattlesnake Raceway is opening its season with a two-day show. Gates open at 4 p.m. both nights and things get rolling at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday’s show starts at 6 p.m. and the new DOC intends to run it like a curfew was in effect. That means Friday should be over by 11 while Saturday’s show should end by 10 p.m.
• To the south of Fallon this is the weekend when Top Gun Drag Strip starts its season. Gates open at 8 a.m. and racing begins at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Rounds 1 and 2 of the Summit series will be run as well as the Junior Dragster program. Great way to see the next generation earn their racing spurs.
Saturday doesn’t end after the last run. At 6 p.m. there will be the 2021 awards banquet. It’s also a potluck dinner for all to enjoy.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday gets rolling at 7 a.m. when Peacock has Indy Car Open Test from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday at 7:55 a.m. is when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Italy. Then at 4 p.m. Fox Sports has #1 Qualifying show from the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston.
• Saturday is a busy day beginning at 7:25 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 Sprint qualifying. Then at 10 a.m. ARCA Racing takes to the track at Talladega then at 1 p.m. Fox airs the Xfinity race from Talladega.
At noon NBC/Peacock airs the AMA Supercross event from Foxborough. If Eli Tomac can leave 52 points in the lead he’ll clinch the 450 championship. At 7 p.m., on a delayed basis, Fox Sport 2 has the first MotoAmerica race from Road Atlanta.
• Sunday begins at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Italy. Then at 7:30 Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying show #2 from Houston.
At noon Fox has the NASCAR Cup race from Talladega. It’s usually a wild race with the big one. At 2 p.m. CNBC, on a delayed basis, shows the MotoGP from Portugal. Then at 3:30 p.m. Fox sports has the second MotoAmerica race from Road Atlanta.
Finally the day ends at 4:30 p.m. when it shows the NHRA Spring Nationals from Houston. The straight-line racers light up the quarter mile.
That’s it for this final weekend of April. There is even more racing to come over the next few weeks. If possible be sure to get out and see an event live as there is nothing like it. Have a great weekend, enjoy the weather and be safe.
