RENO, NV (Jan.5) — Well here we are in the New Year and racing has started with a bang. In this area we car meets, racing to the south but soon local racing will follow.
CAR MEETS:
• Things get going Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Nevada Jeep Club has its first Wine, Women and Jeeps event. The location is Whispering Vine Wine located at 85 Foothill Road in Reno. Ladies will be given a rose until the supply runs out.
• That same morning Fallon Cars & Coffee is slated to have their first meet of the month, starting at 9:30 a.m. at Telegraph Coffee & Tap, located at 1805 W. Williams Avenue.
If one has a jeep they can make the morning meet in Fallon then head to Reno for the Nevada Jeep Club event
• Although nothing was listed when this report was posted, Carson Cars & Coffee usually has a meet on this weekend. Probably want to check their Face Book page for any pop up events.
• Sunday is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has their first meet of the month. Weather should be much better than last time and so should attendance. The meet starts at 10 a.m. and is in front of Buffalo Wild Wings, which is close to the Sparks Target store.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Racing overseas started this last weekend as the annual Dakar Rally got rolling in Saudi Arabia. One can see the highlights either on the Olympic channel, it takes a subscription, or at www.youtube.com.
• To the south the Legacy Racing Association starts its 2022 season with the Desert Showdown. The event runs from January 5 to 9 and is outside of Pahrump, Nevada.
• Further south Best in the Desert kicks off the 2022 season with the Shock Therapy Parker 250. The dates are January 6 to 8 and the classes racing are motorcycle, quads and UTVs.
The race in outside of Parker, Arizona and both events should be blessed with good weather.
• MOTOCROSS (RACING AND PRACTICE):
• Biggest news for many is Anaheim 1, as Supercross starts at it’s traditional place. It can be seen live, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, on CNBC. Highlights will be shown on You Tube.
• As of this posting do not know if the MX track at Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex will be open for practice. Best bet is to check the Face Book page at, Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway.
• MMX Racing over in Marysville has a busy weekend. They have practice on Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kids track.
Then on Sunday there will be practice sessions from 9 until 3 p.m. on the sand, vintage and kid tracks. That’s when Round 1 of this year’s Frigid 6 series starts and its on the main track. On race day practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
The start for the series had to be adjusted due to the bad weather in December.
• REP Racing also has practice sessions. Prairie City will have sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Riverfront MX Park has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
That’s it for this weekend, the second of 2022. Now racing will increase both on TV, the Internet and soon green flags will wave in this area. Be safe everyone, see you next week.
