RENO, NV (Dec. 8) — This week’s Racing Preview has more car meets, parade of lights as well as some racing. On the TV side we are almost 100% into the Re-Run Zone but that ends a month from now.
CAR MEETS/LIGHT PARADES:
• Friday has two light parades to choose from. Here in Reno the Hills Angels 4X4 club is staging the 2nd Annual Reno Light Parade. The meeting place is the dirt area on the south side of Meadowood Mall.
The meeting time is 5 p.m. then at 6 p.m. everyone convoys up Virginia Street through downtown. The parade is a benefit for Ashley’s Toy Closet so everyone is encouraged to bring a toy they can donate.
+ The club has a second part, which is the Offroad Parade of Lights. Meeting time is 8 p.m. where the Peavine access road intersects Old 396/North Virginia Street. Once everyone it there they’ll head up Peavine.
• Up at Virginia City, there is the second Parade of Lights on C Street starting at 5 p.m. Then at 6 p.m. there will be fireworks. There are a lot of other things going on as well.
The Virginia & Truckee trains are lit up as is the Gold Hill Station. There are a few tickets left for the Santa Express so do check the railroad’s website at, www.virginiatruckee.com.
• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has their first meet of the month. The location is at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks.
• To the south, at that same time, Carson Cars & Coffee has the Chilly Bean Meet. The location is 3300 U.S. Highway 50 East in Carson City.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Remember practice sessions will depend on the weather. Here in our area Fernley NightyfiveA Speedway has practice sessions on its two motocross tracks. The times are 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Over the hill MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main and kid tracks. The Sand and Vintage tracks have a private rental. On Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. all four tracks are open for practice.
• REP Racing MX will also have practice sessions but Sunday depends on how much rain they get.
+ E Street MX park is scheduled for practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront has practice Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. but nothing set after that due to incoming weather. It is suggested one call the hot line as that should be updated sometime Friday. That number is 1-775-265-7223 and the website is, www.repracingmx.com.
• This is the final weekend for the 2021 Triple Crown series and rounds 5 and 6 will be run at Argyll MX in Dixon, California. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
RACING (INTERNATIONAL):
• This should be the season ending races for Formula 2 and Formula 1 series. The event is being held in Abu Dhabi and is another fly event race for the teams.
• Friday at 7 a.m. www.espn3.com has Formula 1 Weekend Preview. Then at 11:35 p.m. the network airs the first Formula 2 practice.
• Saturday gets rolling at 12:20 a.m. when ESPN3 airs the first Formula 2 race. Then at 1:55 a.m. ESPN2 starts a double header with Formula 1 practice at 1:55 a.m. followed at 4:55 a.m. with qualifying.
Finally, at 6:45 a.m., ESPN3 has the second Formula 2 race.
• Sunday begins at 1 a.m. when ESPN3 has the Formula 2 Feature race. At 4:55 a.m. ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race that should decide this year’s championship. Considering the action in last week’s race it might be a wild affair.
• Over on www.mavtv.com they are having a series of races, actually re-runs. There are a bunch on Saturday and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, they show another series of races.
Looks like we might get the first burst of winter this week and maybe more to start next week. With that in mind want to wish everyone a safe weekend and hope to see you next time.
