RENO, NV (Oct. 27) — It’s Nevada Day weekend, also Halloween. In our region there will be several car shows, a parade as well as an oval track race plus more on TV to watch.
CAR MEETS:
• On Saturday the Nevada Day parade begins at 10 a.m. in Carson City. There should be several car groups in the parade. One, #45 on the list, is Women With Wheels led by Teresa Aquila, who is also the host of Teresa’s Garage Radio Show, heard on America Media Matters at 2 p.m. Tuesdays.
• After the parade the Northern Nevada Classics is hosting a Trunk O’ Treat at Reno Town Mall by the Atlantis Hotel and Casino. The cruise-in starts at 5:30 then 6:30 is when the kid’s games and Trunk O’ Treat begins.
• One also should check the Carson Cars & Coffee page on Facebook as they tend to have pop up meets on Friday and Saturday.
• On Sunday, from 11 until 2 p.m. Low Boost Performance, located at 350 Greg Street in Sparks, has a Trunk Or Treat Car show. It’s a family friendly event with a costume contest and all makes and model cars are welcome.
• That same day, Halloween, the National Automobile Museum has Trick or Treat in the Streets. Hours are from 2 until 5 p.m. with a costume contest at the end.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• There is a special event Friday and Saturday and it’s the final oval track race for the year in Northern Nevada. Due to the fairground in Susanville being used as a fire camp the folks at Rattlesnake Raceway offered them the track so they could run their Halloween races.
This Friday and Saturday it’s Diamond Mountain Speedway at Rattlesnake Raceway. The crew from Susanville is preparing the track and will run the event.
Friday’s racing begins at 6 p.m. On Saturday any driver wanting to be in the pill draw has to bring two bags of candy. Otherwise they will start at the back.
Saturday’s show actually begins around 4:30 when there will be Trick or Treats on the front straight. The racing should start around 5 p.m. with a full show.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCYCLES):
• MRANN’s next race is this weekend. The Tankslappers MC presents the Chukar Chaser 100 or the 23rd Annual Stan Searle Memorial race at Purgatory Peak.
The site is east of the north end of Winnemucca Dry Laks. Earlier the club did issue a cautionary note about the road so one might want to check on the road’s condition.
This time the order is reversed with the big bikes starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and racing on a 50-mile loop. As usual a rider has to complete one loop to be classed as a finisher.
On Sunday the Pee Wee race begins at 10 a.m. and runs for 45 minutes on a 1-mile course. Many times the kids will be in costume as the race and there should be Trick Or Treat time in the pits Saturday evening.
Then at noon the Mini Bikes, Women and Bombers start their race. That event runs for 90 minutes on a 15-mile loop. Those wishing further information should check out the website at, www.racemrann.com.
• The Northern California tracks should have dried out by now so MMX Racing in Marysville should have its usual practice sessions. Saturday it’s from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kids track then on Sunday times are from 9 until 3 with the vintage track included.
• When this article was posted REP Racing had not updated its hot line from last week. Currently round 3 of the REP Fall Series is schedule for this Sunday at Riverfront MX Park. There is no word on Prairie City. Best bet is to check Instagram at reppracing or try the hotline at 1-775-265-7223.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday is a bit slow but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. •
Friday is slim but at 4 p.m. Fox Sports has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Vegas Nationals.
• Saturday is a bit busier at starting at 12:30 a.m. on www.motortrendondemand.com. The broadcast starts with the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Bahrain followed by two Australian Super Car races.
• Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. has the Camping World Truck Series than at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race. This weekend NASCAR is at the “Paperclip,” track at Martinsville.
• This week is critical for NASCAR drivers as the countdown to the final four drivers for each championship happens on the shortest track they race on. On the Cup side one was above the cutoff while three others were just below it and three had enough points to be seeded in the final four.
This time NBC at 11 a.m. will broadcast the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. When the checkered waves at the end four drivers will be seeded into the final race at Phoenix and one of them will be come the champion.
• At 1 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 then at 2 p.m. the network airs the Las Vegas Nationals. In fact there is a special poker chip to celebrate the event and in two weeks the show returns to Pomona for the championship event.
That’s all for now folks. Have a great weekend and be sure to have something for the little ghosts and goblins that will be out Sunday.
