Finally, after being postponed earlier this year the 50th Virginia City Grand Prix is happening this weekend.

• The biggest race in our region happens this weekend. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Virginia Grand Prix, a true test of man/woman and machine. Winning a trophy at this event is very special.

Saturday and Sunday both start at 10 a.m. on C Street. The pros, expert and amateurs race Saturday and four hours after the green is waved the checkered flag comes out. This year the pits have moved back to the Silverland Hotel area where it used to be. Saturday awards will be handed out at 4 p.m.by the Bucket of Blood and later a movie, On Any Sunday, will be shown.

For the youngsters there is a Moto Mouth Mini Grand Prix at the fairgrounds. It begins at 4:30 and honors long time announcer Bob Cavakis. Sunday is a three-hour race with Novice, Vintage, Women and other classes.

• There will be practice sessions at the new motocross track located at 95A Motorsports Complex. Times are from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine.

• Over the hill Battle Born MX is scheduled to have Round 10 of its series at Riverfront MX. When this article was posted the event might be in doubt due to the expected storm coming in.  Best bet is to call the REP Racing hotline at 1-775-265-7223 or on Instagram. The website for the track is, www.repracingmx.com
