RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: 2021 AWARDS BANQUET

FALLON, NV (Oct. 16) — Not that the racing season is over it’s is time to honor the class champions and volunteers. This time the event was held at the Eagles hall west of downtown.

The trophies and champion’s jackets were ready to go.

After a really nice pot luck dinner and handing out some raffle prizes it was time to get down to business.

Chris Lumsden, president of the association, got up and started with the Mini Stock division. Fifth place was Angelo Rallo while Colton Blankenship was fourth and also earned the Willie Ferrier Rookie-of-the year award.

Mini Stock top there were (L to R) Cooper Lee, champion Travis Showe and Jorden Riley, 3rd place.

Third was Jorden Riley while Cooper Lee was second and Travis Showe earned this season’s championship trophy and jacket.

Next up was the Hobby Stock class and Bob Vaden ended up in fourth place. Richie Altman was third place while Victor Richie was the runner up but unfortunately neither were in attendance.

Angela Dias receivers her Hobby Stock champion’s trophy, champion’s hoodie as well as the Rookie-of-the-year award.

Angela Dias is this year’s champion as well as receiving the Willie Farrier Rookie-of-the-Year award. Since she didn’t want a jacket Dias received a champion’s hoodie sweatshirt.

Over the past year the Bootleggers class has grown and become very popular. It’s kind of a bomber class with a twist as a car can be claimed. Joe Keough ended up in sixth place and also won the Willie Ferrier Rookie-of-the-Year award. Fifth place was Taggart Garland while Logan Sage was fourth.

Bootleggers top three. (L to R) Glenn Lee, 2nd place, Stuart Satathite champion and third place Ray Blankenship.

Ray Blankenship was third in points while the runner up as Glenn Lee. Receiving the champion’s trophy and jacket was Start Satathite.

Next came some special awards named after people that have helped the track in the past.

Taggart Garland receives the Cornu Family Most Improved Driver for the Bootlegger division.

The Cornu Family Most Improved Driver in the Bootlegger class was Taggart Garland. Unfortunately the Hobby Stock winner Shane Boyde wasn’t present.

For several years Stephanie Benham was a fixture at the registration stand greeting everyone with her smile and outgoing personality. Sadly she suddenly passed away a few years ago.

Krystle Gilmore receives the Stephanie Benham Most Appreciated Volunteer award.

Now the Volunteer of the Year award is named after Benham and this year it went to Krystle Gilmore.

The Best Sportsman awards went to Rusty McMillan and Joe Keough. They were always ready to help others during the season.

Jeremy Lampley, a Bootlegger racer, receives the special “Hard Luck Award,” for a very challening season.

The Mark Lee Hard Luck Award, with a special trophy went to Jeremy Lampley for his very challenging season. A bit later the Bootlegger drivers got up and then presented Lampley with the first ever “Wall Finder” award. Guess he had several encounters with it during this past year.

The Bootlegger drivers also gave Lampley the first evere “Wall Finder” award.

At the last race new members of the LARA board were elected and they were introduced.  Even though the season has ended there will be more event at Rattlesnake Raceway.

Due to the track being used as a fire camp Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville was in danger of losing its Halloween races. Lumsden offer the used to Rattlesnake to them and they accepted so on October 29 and 30 it will be Diamond Mountain Speedway at Rattlesnake Raceway.

The crew is coming down from Susanville and will operate the track, should be two good days of racing.

• The next day, Sunday, Reno Cars & Coffee had a meet by the Human Bean in Reno.  As usual there was a mix of cars on display.

This beautiful early model Corvette was at the Reno & Coffee meet.

One of them was this immaculate early Corvette compete with a three-speed gearbox.

At the meet was this SUV decorated for Halloween.

Another small SUV was also decorated in a seasonal motif. There is a skeleton mounted on the roof.
