RENO, NV (May 19): As we head toward the biggest racing weekend of the year things are ramping up nationally and in this region. The only question for us is the incoming weather that will hit then be gone by Saturday.
CAR MEETS & CRUISES:
• Summit Racing Equipment, located at 950 E. Glendale Ave. in Sparks will host another Friday cruise in. Things get going around 4 p.m. and hopefully the weather will cooperate
• There may or may not be Fernley Main Street Cruise on Friday. They haven’t let me know which weekends it will happen. However if it does staring time is 7 p.m. and the meeting place is at the Wigwam. If anyone knows which weekend this cruise happens during the month please let me know.
• There is another special cruise/car show on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. in Carson City. It’s at the Carson/Tahoe Expressions Memory Car center located at 1001 Mountain Street. This is a great opportunity to brighten the spirits of the residents.
• Saturday starts at 9:30 a.m. when the Fernley/Fallon Cars & Coffee has a meet at the Telegraph Coffee & Tap in Fallon. The location is 1850 W. Williams Avenue.
• Sunday gets going with Carson Mall Cars & Doughnuts starts its meet at 9:45 a.m. Once again please park in the assigned areas.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its meet starting at 10 a.m. by the Buffalo Wild Wings. The meet is not far from the Target Store.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Sadly incoming weather has postponed the Friday/Saturday Wild West Modified Tour show at Winnemuca Regional Raceway. They are looking at the August 20/21 weekend.
• Northern Nevada Kart Club is racing Sunday at Desert Park Raceway. First karts are expected on the track by 8:30 followed by a full day of qualifying, heat races and mains for each class.
RACING (MOTORCYCLES):
• The Fernley Motocross, Sandbox, track is closed until this weekend. Saturday from 8 until 2 p.m. is a private ride day for OTHG (Over The Hill Gang) members. Sunday is open practice from 8 until 2 p.m. for everyone. The club is preparing for the traditional OTHG National event on Memorial Day weekend.
• Sunday is the next round of the 2021 Summer Sundayz series. This time it’s on the main track at MMX. The track should have its regular practice schedule from 9 until 2 Saturday then on Sunday, except for the main track, from 9 until 3 p.m.
• Unfortunately REP Racing MX didn’t have their hot line updated when this preview was posted. However they did mention that round 2 of the 2021 Summer Series will be at Riverfront MX Saturday. Gates open at noon, practice begins at 4 p.m.with racing to follow. One can register at www.repracingmx.com or call the hotline for updates, especially with weather coming in, at 775-265-7223.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• As the sport is heading into the biggest racing weekend of the year the motor sport buffet on TV is over flowing this weekend.
• Thursday begins at 12:45 A.M. (Yep 15 minutes after midnight.) when ESPN 3 has Formula 2 practice from Monaco. Then at 2:25 a.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice.
ESPN comes back a 4:20 a.m. with Formula 2 qualifying then ESPN U at 5:55 a.m. has Formula1 practice. Peacock at 9 a.m. has Indy Car practice from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway then at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday is a bit slower but at 2:45 a.m. ESPN airs the first Formula 2 race from Monaco. It’s a big race for those drivers as they get to show their skills in front of the Formula 1 teams. Finally at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Peacock has Indy Car practice.
• Saturday is busy and ESPN 2 gets things rolling at 2:55 a.m. with Formula 1 practice followed at 5:55 a.m. with qualifying.
Then at 6:30 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car Practice and at 8:15 a.m. ESPN has the second Formula 2 race from Monaco. Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. has the Camping World Truck series from the Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
Three networks, Peacock, NBC and NBC Sports team up from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for Indy Car qualifying. You’ll need to check the local listings to find how they are shifting. Switching back to Fox Sports 2 ate noon they broadcast the weekend’s first MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Virginia International Raceway. At 1 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Xfinity race at COTA then at 5 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the ARCA race from Toledo, Ohio.
Over on www.youtube.com one can catch two short track races starting at 5:30 p.m. from Madera Speedway either on shortracktv or the Madera Speedway Face Book page. Finally at 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Saturday qualifying from Houston Raceway Park as due to weather the event is on a two-day format.
• Sunday gets ripping early at 5:55 a.m. with the Formula 1 race from Monaco. Except for a few changes the circuit is the same the grand prix cars raced on when the event started in 1929. Then starting at 10 a.m. NBC Sports has more qualifying for the Indy 500 and NBC will take over for the Fast 9, which sets the pole position.
Fox Sports 1 at 9 a.m. had NHRA Sunday qualifying from Houston followed at 11:30 a.m. with the NASCAR Cup race from COTA where they are using the long course.
Fox Sports at noon has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Virginia International Raceway then at 3 p.m., on a delayed basis, Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Spring Nationals from Houston Raceway Park.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Apparently there were some scoring issues with Sunday’s motocross at Fernley. Hopefully the official results will be posted and if so will try and get that article out Thursday.
