RENO, NV (April21) – This weekend’s racing preview has more events including two area tracks that are starting their seasons. There is more racing on TV as well as two motocross events in Northern California.
CAR MEETS:
• Before the weekend’s cool down once again things get rolling Friday, from 7 until 9 p.m. with the Fernley Main Street Cruise. As usual the assembly point is the Wigwam.
• Sunday has three groups meeting and unfortunately weather could be a factor. Have to wait and see what happens.
+ Sparks Cars & Coffee will gather, starting at 10 a.m., by Buffalo Wild Wings. That’s located not far from the Sparks Target store.
+ To the South Carson Cars & Donuts (Changed their name.) also gathers, starting at 9:45 a.m., at the Dutch Brothers coffee stand located by the Carson Mall. Remember, parking is marked by cones so please use that area.
+ Lake Tahoe Cars & Coffee has a meet, starting at 10 a.m., at the Heavenly Village shops. Hopefully the weather doesn’t affect this one.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Rattlesnake Raceway begins its 2021 season with a two-day show. Friday’s racing begins at 7 p.m. while it’s a 6 p.m. start on Saturday, which also has kids rides during the intermission.
• Top Gun Dragstrip also begins its season with a Saturday-Sunday show. The action begins at 10 a.m. each day and after the racing ends on Saturday there is a potluck dinner.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• There will be three motocross races this weekend with two in Northern and the other in Central California.
+ Oatfield MX track, located in the Merced area, is hosting the Sierra National Round, which is the second race in the OTHG Nationals. Friday is a practice day.
+ MMX Racing, over in the Marysville area is hosting the 2021 CZ Nationals. Looks like Friday will be for practice with racing both Saturday and Sunday.+ REP Racing is also going to be busy this weekend.- E Street MX Park is hosting round 3 of the Spring Fling series. The pros have a $1,500 to win purse and on line registration is open.
– Riverfront has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then there is a moto rider development camp Friday and Saturday. Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. has open practice. – Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. and according to the site on line registration is needed. • On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 4 p.m. CBS Sports has Formula E preview.
• Friday is very slim but a good chance to catch up on races one may have missed. Over on www.youtube.com they have many highlights from all kinds of races. For you World of Outlaws fans try www.dirtvision.com or for short track fans try www.floracing.com.
• Saturday starts at 5:30 a.m. when CBS Sports has Formula E race #1 from Valencia. Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the ARCA race from Talladega then at 4 p.m. Fox broadcasts the Xfinity race from there.
At 4 p.m. NBC Sports has the AMA Supercross race from Salt Lake City. This is the farthest west the series has gone this year.
• Sunday gets off to another early start when CBS Sports has race #2 for the Formula E series from Valencia, Spain.
Then at 9:30 a.m. NBC airs the Indy Car race from the streets of Saint Petersburg Florida. After last weekend on a road course this could be an action packed event as they’ll be racing between walls.
Finally the day ends at 11 a.m. as FOX airs the NASCAR Cup race from Taladega. Due to the restrictor plates this event features pack racing and usually there is plenty of action.
