RENO, NV (April 7) — Racing Preview this week highlights an increase in racing now that the Easter Weekend is behind us. Helping things is some great spring weather.
CAR MEETS & CRUISES:
• The Fernley Main Street Cruise, from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday evening gets this weekend rolling. As usual the Wigwam is the assembly point.
There is a car meet on Saturday as well as a cruise.
• The Fernley/Fallon Cars and Coffee group has a meet in Fallon. It goes from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The meeting place is 1805 West Williams Avenue.
• In Sun Valley Wicked Wayz Car Club is starting their cruise nights this Saturday. It begins at 6 p.m. by the Blvd Tattoo Studio on Sun Valley Blvd.
• Sunday is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its meet from 9:45 until 11:45 a.m. by Buffalo Wings in Sparks. The location is across the parking lot from the Target store.
• Carson Cars and Coffee also has a meet starting aat 10 a.m. by the Dutch Brothers coffee stand. The Carson Mall has asked that people park in certain areas so please check the map.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Top Gun Dragstrip, located south of Fallon, is having a test and tune session Saturday. Hours are frmo 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For an entry price one can make as many runs as possible. They also won’t have concessions to everyone should bring their own food and drink.
The track has also asked for some help at the end. They need to repaint the entry booth and any help will be appreciated.
• VORRA is hosting its first desert race of the season, the Hawthorne 275. Bikes and Quads race on Friday while Trucks, Buggies and UTVs get their chance on Saturday. For further information please check www.vorraracing.com.
• To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway is opening its 2021 season with a Saturday/Sunday show. PIt gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday with racing starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday pit gates open at 10 a.m. and racing begins at 1 p.m.
• Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, Calif will host the third race in this season on April10, which is Saturday. Spectators are allowed and at 6 p.m. the first green flag will wave.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• MMX Racing in Marysville, Calif. has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on three of its tracks then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on all of its tracks. This weekend it is introducing something new; flat track racing.
This Saturday it’s a TT format while the other races are flat track. To participate a rider will need a District 36 and AMA Card. The series runs through the summer and into September.
• REP Racing not only has practice sessions but a race as well. Once again there was no mention of E Street MX Park on the hotline. Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+The second round of the Spring Fling series has been moved to Riverfront MX Park. There is open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday.
Friday is for parking and gates open at 7 a.m. Saturday with practice from 9 until 2 p.m. On Sunday gates open at 6 a.m., practice starts at 8 a.m. with racing to follow. For further information please check the website at www.repracingmx.com.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday is pretty slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. This is also a good time to try other sites like www.youtube.com, www.mavtv.com and www.floracing.com.
• Friday at 3:30 p.m. CBS Sports has a Formula E preview. This weekend the series races in Rome, Italy. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Xfinity racing at Martinsville. Now that Easter break is over NASCAR returns to the Paper Clip as the track is known.
Saturday gets off to an early start as at 6 a.m. CBS Sports broadcasts race #1 of the Formula E series. With out any exhaust or engine noise this series races in cities where others are not able to.
Supercross is back and begins a three-day stand at Atlanta Motor Speedway. it’s an outdoor race using a set up much like that at Daytona.
Finally at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. Shortest track on the circuit and it puts quite a load on brakes.
• Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CBS Sports airs race #2 for the Formula E series as they take to the streets of Rome. Probably one of the more unusual sporting events ever held in the Eternal City.
• One more race this time. The AMA Supercross series races Atlanta 2 on Tuesday. It will be shown live on Peacock starting at 1 p.m. then on a delayed basis at 4 p.m. on NBC Sports.
