RENO, NV (April 2) — Beautiful weather on Easter Sunday set the stage for Reno Cars & Coffee meet. As usual the first of the month meet was by the Keitzke Starbucks and once again it was a large gathering.
These meets area a great way to be around car people or just to see some good looking cars.
While the cars ranged from exotic to the, well ordinary, there were a couple of vintage classics that stood out. One of them was a 1958 Nash Metropolitan owned by Christian Grams.
He related finding a guy that owned 17 of these vintage machines and Grams bought seven of them. He brought one to display.
“I pulled it right around the corner here,” he said. “It had sat outside for 40 years but really fired up on the first try. Then I went ahead, put new gas in it and drove home.”
Since it’s a bit unusual to see a car like this on the road he’s also using the Nash to advertise his business, Distinct Auto Dealing, which he said is the top shop in Reno and Sparks.
“This one I’m going to keep stock100%,” he said. “This one’s a local car and everyone knows it so I’m going to keep it original. It’s all matching numbers and everything so I’m not going to mess with it.”
On display was another 1950’s vintage Nash Rambler station wagon. This has its interior stripped out, a roll cage installed so it appears to be a work in progress.
Another classic was a vintage Jeep, actually a 1951 Willys Jeep owned by Hannah Waller. She and it have a long history.
“It’s been in my family since 1961 and this is how I remember it as a little girl,” she said. “And I did learn how to drive with it as we would take it down to the river and had such a fun time with it.”
The Jeep looks stock and for the most part it is but it isn’t a daily driver.
“It’s pretty fairly stock as the only thing we’ve changed out are the shocks, tires and tail lights,” she said. “It only has a top speed of45 miles an hour or maybe 50 on a good day going downhill.”
She added where it shines is off road and easy cruising around town.
“It does off road pretty easy, it’s a crawler for sure since you can take it anywhere, just not on the freeway. It’s a slower one but it’s go anywhere and so fun to drive on beautiful days like this or during the summer. I love taking it out every weekend,” she said.
Among the cars displayed was a SRT with a wild paint job and a wonderfully restored Ford Mustang GT350.
As usual many owners are proud of the motors they have in their cars and many had hoods lifted to people can see them.
One car on display was the great restoration of a 1956 Chevy Bel Air Hard Top and it’s motor was almost a piece of art.
