RENO, NV (Jan. 11) – Time for another look ahead as we head into the New Year. Yes there is racing going on and tracks in our region are hoping for a “normal” season if they can have one. There schedules will come later.
LOCAL NEWS:
• Go kart racers please note that Desert Park Raceway is closed through Friday due to construction on Northern Nevada Kart Club’s home track. There will be an update and the hope is to have everything ready by Saturday.
Their website is www.nnkcreno.com.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Another event that actually is starting today is the Chili Bowl Nationals. The week is full of qualifying races and heats and they can be seen on www.floracing.com then on Saturday the opening ceremonies and finals will be carried on www.mavtv.com.
• To the south Best in the Desert gets its season rolling with the Parker “425” also known as “The Legend Lives On.” This event is for UTVs, Trucks and Cars.
• On the other side of the world the Dakar Rally is in its final week as they roar across the landscape of Saudi Arabia. Not only does one get to see many types of vehicles being raced but some times herds of wild camels as well.
You can see daily updates at www.youtube.com and the VCGP Face Book page is hosting updates for the moto riders in the event. Last year an American won the motorcyle part but trouble in the first state has really put him behind. How ever this is an event where anything can happen.
REPORTER’S NOTE: While I have some schedule for oval tracks in our region I’m waiting for another to publish its schedule. So Thursday’s preview article should be longer with those for all the oval tracks.
The hope is for restrictions to be at least relaxed so racing can get going. Right now people are starting working on their cars and motorcycles so they are prepared for the first green flag.
Next Monday hope to have a special interview of a local and now retired racer.
