RENO, NV (OCT 19) – With no races in our immediate region thought it was a good time to take a look at the stretch run for racing in 2020. With five exceptions the action switches to the two-wheel world for desert and motocross races.
As a result part of this will be repeated and expanded in Thursday’s preview article but that is focused only on the upcoming weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• There are a couple of car meets I do want to give some exposure to as one is for a good cause and the other is a family fun event.
Saturday, from 11 until 3 p.m. it’s the annual 6th Annual Iron Rebels Car Show. There will be raffle prizes but the proceeds go to help the family of Brian Kennedy.
Location is at Shelton Racing and Fabrication located at 3600 Challenger Way in Carson City.
Later that afternoon starting at 5:30 p.m. there is a cruise in at Reno Town Mall. The event is sponsored by Northern Nevada Classics and the mall is on Peckham Lane close to the Atlantis.
There will be kids games as well as a Trunk or Treat at 7 p.m. Should be a fun family time.
Then on Sunday Reno-Sparks-Fernley Cars & Pizza has a Trunk-or-Treat in front of Round Table Pizza in Fernley. Times are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and it’s a safe way for the kids to have an early trick or treat.
RACING (4-Wheels):
+ November is a busy month for the 4-wheel set as they end the year with a flourish. Things get rolling on the weekend of 4-7 with two off-road races.
+ Down south Best in the Desert is hosting the Maxxis Triple Crown race where all classes will compete. Should be a good one to wrap up their year.
+ Closer to home VORRA returns for the Fight at the Fort. Like last year it will be at the Fort Sage area east of Doyle, California. The pre running is on Friday, November 6th while the race is Saturday the 7th.
+ The dirt oval in Las Vegas will also be very busy with the 33rd annual IMCA Duel in the Desert. It’s five days and nights of racing on the dirt. Unfortunately this year spectators are not allowed.
+ Then the week of November 11 to 17 it’s the BF Goodrich SCORE Baja 1000 will be run. This is a classic off-road race that travels most of the way to the south end of Baja.
RACING (MOTORCYCLES):
Motocross gets going this coming weekend with two motocross races and a European scramble event.
+ Furthest west the Argyll MX track in the bay area kicks off the 2020 Triple Crown series. After that it moves to MMX in Marysville for the weekend of November20 and then ends at Oatfield Raceway with a three-day event on December 11 through the 13th.
+ This weekend MMX hosts an AMA District 36 Cross Country race. It’s a two-day, multi-class event at the track.
+ Closer to home Battle Born MX continues it’s fall series with Round 4 on October 24-25 at Fernley. Registration is on line and social distancing required.
The first round at Fernley is hosted by the local chapter of the Over The Hill Gang as is the next round on November 7 and 8. After that REP racing hosts the final round over at the Riverfront track on November 21 & 22nd.
For further information on schedules and on-line registration please check out www.battlebornmx.com.
+ REP Racing is also running its 2020 Fall Series of motocross races. On October 18 the series races is at E Street MX Park then on November 1st it moves to Prairie City.
After that the next round is on November 15th at E Street and the series ends on December 6th at Prairie City. Please note to race at Prairie City one has to register on line. Currently if a person isn’t they can’t practice there and might not be able to race on the track. Also no spectators are allowed.
Hope this will change but for further information please check the website at www.repracingmx.com.
+ The desert racers of the MRANN series have only two more rounds of their 2020 season left. The next race is the traditional one on Halloween weekend and is hosted by the Tankslappers Motorcycle Club.
The location is at the end of the frontage road reached by the Nightingale exit on I-80 east of Fernley. The road is on the south side of the freeway and the pits are at the end of the pavement.
Saturday is the short-course day with the Pee Wee, Mini Bike, Saturday Women as well as the Vintage and Bomber bikes. Action starts at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is when the Big Bike classes get their turn on the long course. The loop is 50 miles long and a rider must complete one to be classed as a finisher.
The final MRANN round is on the weekend of November14 and 15. It is hosted by the Gold Diggers Motorcycle Club and is in the Winnemucca area.
For further information please check the website at, www.racemrann.com.
So that completes the look into the stretch run of 2020. There will also be some banquets as well and if it happens, the annual RPM Workshop in Reno slated for the first week in December. This event isn’t open to the public but brings the short track industry to the Biggest Little City.
In Thursday’s article I’ll have more regarding MX practice sessions as well as what’s going on nationally and internationally. Sometime in late November I’ll start listing the Rerun Zone as live events will have stopped.
