RENO, NV (Oct. 7) – As the year heads to a close another track ends its but fall motorcycle racing is upon us. There are still some car meets as well as racing both national and international happening.
CAR MEETS:
• On Saturday, starting at 6:30 p.m. Next Generation hosts the Cool October Nights Fall Kick Off. It’s the final cruise of the year and all are welcome including spectators to see all types of cars and the location is Victorian Avenue in Sparks.
• Sunday gets off to an early start at the Dutch Brothers coffee stand at the south end of Cason City. At 9 a.m. Carson Cars & Coffee holds the first of its bi-monthly car meets.
• An hour later, at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has its monthly car meet. The location is by Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks close to the Target Store.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• There are two big races in our region this weekend. Things get rolling Saturday as 95 Motor Sports Complex hosts their season ending two-day show.
Several classes, including Pro Stocks and Boot Leggers will be competing. In addition it is the final round of this year’s I-80 Challenge series. There has been extra money added to the purse for each class as well.
Gates on Saturday open at 3 p.m. while racing begins at 6 p.m. then gates open at 8 a.m. Sunday with a noon start to the action.
Of course this will depend on the weather so please check first.
• The next weekend long event actually has two parts to it that are combined.
Three MRANN clubs are joining forces to stage the Welcome to Hell 100. The location is Blue Wing Flat located about 30 miles west of Toulon and there is also a route for those pulling trailers.
As usual the Pee Wee riders start Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the V-Women and Mini Bike race. The day, which is an all MRANN event ends with the Big Bikes, Bomber and Vintage bikes. There are also other AMA classes involved as well.
The entire weekend is also Round 6 of the AMA National Hare & Hound series. Sunday is for the adult racers and depening on which class the distance varies.
The first loop is 61 miles in length while the Pro and some other classes then race around a 40-mile loop. Last year was a point-to-point race while this year it’s racing around a loop.
MOTOCROSS (PRACTICE & RACING):
• MMX Racing is staging the Return of the Coupe` Classic. It’s two days of motocross action and the gates open at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. There is a practice session Saturday after the races.
• REP Racing MX also has practice sessions at it’s three tracks.
+ E Street: Practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront: Practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
+ Prairie City: Note one must register online at www.repracingmx.com to be able to practice here and no spectators are allowed. Practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday only..
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL)
• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Fox Sports 2 at 5:30 p.m. airs NHRA Sportsmen and at 6:30 p.m. NHRA In 30.
• Friday is dead so best advice is to look for races one has missed. One good site is www.youtube.com and another is www.mavtv.com as they have a wide variety of racing events.
• Things get busy on Saturday as Fox Sports 2 has the first race from MotoAmerica Superbike as this time they are at Indianapolis.
Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC has the Xfinity race from Charlotte. This time they’ll use the “Roval” or road course made inside the oval.
This weekend the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series winds up its season from the Pala track in Southern California. Again some challenging channel switching may be necessary.
The first 250 moto will be on at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the first 450 moth. Those can be seen live either on www.mavtv.com or NBC Sports Gold.
Then at 3 p.m. the second 250 moto will start followed at 4 p.m. by the second 450 moto. Those races can be seen either on NBC Sports or NBC Sports Gold.
At 5 p.m. NBC Sports will broadcast the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Champion race from the Roval at Charlotte.
• Sunday gets rolling early at 5:05 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from the Nurburgring circuit. At noon Fox Sports 1 has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Indy.
Then at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has the NASCAR Cup race from the Roval at Charlotte. The playoffs are going so any driver that wants to have a chance at the championship needs a good finish.
Later, at 3:30 p.m., on a delayed basis, NBC Sports has the Moto GP race from Le Mans. And the day ends over on CBS Sports with the DTM (German Touring Car) race from Zolder.
That’s it for this weekend. Now everything in our region, with one exception, is for the two-wheeled crowd. Have a good, safe weekend everybody.
