RACING PREVIEW: OCTOBER 1 TO 4

RENO, NV (Sept. 30) – Racing Preview this week has a bunch of events both locally, regionally and nationally to keep any fan and car person happy. As the seasons begin to close there is a flurry of activity.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

• Three events highlight a busy Saturday for car people. Just remember to observe social distancing and be respectful of others.

+ The Hills Angles 4X4 Club is hosting a clean up at the end of Chimney Road near the water towers in Sun Valley. The event begins at 8 a.m. by the water towers and will help keep the area clean for off-road recreation.

After the clean up there is a BBQ. The club is working with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and does many clean ups like this.

Political cruise announcement. A different car and truck cruise.

+ There is a large political theme cruise beginning at 12:30 a.m. with groups starting in Reno, down in Douglas County, South Lake Tahoe and in Carson City. Time to decorate the cars and trucks as everyone heads for the state capitol.

Wicked Ways is hosting a Wicked Cruise Night in Reno.

+ Later that evening Wicked Ways, starting at 7 p.m., will host a cruise in downtown Reno passing under the arch.

• Sunday has two events for car people.

+ Up in Truckee it’s the Fall Thaw starting at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting place is the Truckee Safeway located at 11290 Donner Pass Road.

+ That same day starting at 10 a.m. Reno Cars and Coffee gets the month started with a meet at the Kietzke Starbucks. This meet usually has a large amount of various types of cars on hand.

MOTOCROSS PRACTICE/RACES:

• There will be no practice sessions on the MX track at 95 Motor Sports Complex this weekend.

• MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on the vintage, main, sand and kid’s tracks.

The three tracks REP Racing MX has will have practice and racing this weekend.

+ E Street has an Sierra Old Timers ride day from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday. Then open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All riders wishing to use this track must register on-line at www.repracingmx.com.

Fall Series at Riverfront schedule.

Riverfront has Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Then on Saturday practice is on the Vet track from 9 until 2 p.m. while the main track is for the racers to practice on from 2 until 5 p.m.

Sunday is the first round of the Fall Series. Gates open at 7 a.m. with practice starting at 9 and racing to follow.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Rattlesnake Raceway ends its season with the 34th annual Dirt Track Championship.

• This weekend Rattlesnake Raceway, located east of downtown Fallon, will host the 34th annual Dirt Track Championship races.

Up to eight classes will wind up the racing year with a two -day show. On Saturday racing is supposed to start at 4 p.m. while it’s a 1 p.m. start on Sunday. At the end several drivers will earn the DTC for their class.

Northern Nevada Kart Club ends its season Sunday.

• On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club will wind up its shortened season at Desert Park Raceway. Registration is online until 6 p.m. Saturday.

The first heat races should begin around 10 a.m. and they’ll run the long course for this final event of the year.

Announcement of a big drag racing event this weekend.

• Although not in our region several area drag racers are probably going to attend the major drag race at Famoso Drag Strip in the Central Valley. The event runs from Thursday through Sunday will all types of races for different classes.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• As usual Thursday is a bit slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air NASCAR Race Hub.

• The Indy Cars have returned to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course for a double header this weekend. On Friday at 12:30 p.m. the USA Network will air their first race.

• Saturday is a busy day as NASCAR visits the high speed Talladega track. Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. broadcasts the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck series race. Then at 11:30 a.m. NBC airs the second Indy Car race.

+ Once again the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series races and is at Lakewood, Colorado and once again it will take a bit of channel switching depending on the package a viewer has.

The first 250 moto will be at noon followed at 1 p.m. by the firsst 450 moto. Those can be watched live either on www.mavtv.com or NBC Sports Gold.

Then the second 250 moto is run at 2 p.m. followed at 3 p.m. by the second 450 moto. Those can be watched live on NBC Sports Gold or later, starting at 4:30 p.m. on NBC Sports.

Switching back to NBC at 1:30 p.m. the network has the Xfinity race from Talladega. Then at 7 p.m. Fox Sports has NHRA qualifying from St. Louis.

• Sunday begins at 10:30 with NHRA qualifying on Fox Sports 1. Then at 11 a.m. NASCAR Cup teams take to the Talladega track for the next round of their playoff series.

Back to Fox Sports 1 as at 11:30 a.m. they broadcast the final rounds of the NHRA event from St. Louis. Finally the weekend ends with a delayed broadcast on NBC Sports at 4:30 p.m. for the Super Bike World Championship round from Magny-Cours, France.
