RENO, NV (Sept.23) – Racing preview this week is a mixed bag of local car meets, cruises and racing not to mention a full menu on TV and the Internet.
CAR MEETS/CRUISES:
• There is a pop up event sponsored by Reno Euro Cars & Coffee. It happens on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at DeLeon Mexican Food located at 1201 California Avenue in Reno.
• This maybe the last one but as far as I know the Fernley Quaratine Main Street cruise is still on for Friday. The times are7 to 9 p.m. and the meet up place is at the Wigwam.
• Needless to say many are upset about the cancellation of this year’s Street Vibrations. Well there will be a cruise Saturday to kind of make up for that.
(I slightly altered the title) It’s the Street Vibrations Rally and the meet up place is the large parking lot by the Keitzke Starbucks in Reno. All types of motorcycles, cars and trucks are welcome.
The cruise departs at noon and heads downtown to go under the Arch. Remember social distancing and please be respectful.
• That same day, from 9 until 5 p.m. Road Rider of Reno is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It’s a real motorcycle enthusiast happening with bike wash girls, a food truck and VFW industrial reps on site.
• Sunday gets off to an early start as Lake Tahoe Cars & Coffee has a caravan from Truckee, starting at 7 a.m. and heading for a meet in Auburn, California that begins at 8.
• Carson Cars & Coffee will also have a meet starting at 9 a.m. on the south side of town. The location is the Dutch Brothers coffee stand down there.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Another reginal oval track brings its 2020 season to an end this weekend. Summit Raceway in Elko has the Gold Rush races starting at 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
• Closer to home there is the 95 Motor Sports Grand Prix. The Mason Valley Dirt Squirts host this MRANN event.
Part of the course will probably use the motocross track but it has been expanded so the course should be a few miles in length. It will also be flatter than Honey Lake.
Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with the Pee Wee racers followed by the Mini Bikes, Saturday women as well as bomber and vintage bikes. On Sunday each group has a separate race with the Novice riders taking off at 9 a.m. followed at11 a.m. by the Amateurs then the Experts get their turn starting at 1 p.m.

• Over in Marysville MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 Saturday. Sunday is race day as AMA District 36 hosts the MMX Grand Prix.

• Right now teams are either arriving or have been around the starting point but Saturday Score-International is running the 52nd Baja 500. All types of racers from motorcycles to trucks will be competing.
Then in November they return for the Baja 1000, a grueling test of drivers and machines. For further information please check their website at, www.score-international.com.
• As usual Thursday is a bit slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• Saturday begins early at 4:55 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Russia.
Once again it will take some channel switching to see the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross race coming from Jacksonville.
+ Mavtv and NBC Sports Gold have the first 250 moto beginning at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the first 450 moto.
+ Then it all switches to NBC Gold as the network airs the second 250 moto at noon followed at 1 p.m. by the second 450 moto.
