STEAD, NV (Sept 6 ) – The Northern Nevada Kart Club hosted round 4 of its 2020 season at Desert Park Raceway, the club’s home track. Despite some smoke the turn out was pretty good and fortunately the day wasn’t as hot as expected.
As usual the mains began with Kid Kart feature. Going in it appeared Drake Kephart would make it a sweep. However in racing nothing is certain until one passes by the checkered flag.
Only a lap or two into the race Kephart spun in the final turn complex. By the time he got turned around, with some help from this reporter, Cash Prater had a huge lead and the chase was on.
Prater went on to score the victory although Kephart put on a charge that earned him second place ahead of Noah Nobles and Kaid Ryckebosch.,
Next up was the race of the day in Master Super Sport. On the second attempt at starting the feature all seemed well until four karts tangled in Turn 1. Up front Edward Atkins was leading Jason Anderline but behind them Korey Williams was on a charge.
Anderline would eventually fall out with problems while Williams had been picking people off and had taken second. Finally he took the point with Atkins chasing him.
Coming out of the final turn Atkins made his move and they both crossed the line almost side-by-side. Checking the times Williams won by slightly over nine hundreds of a second, the closest finish of the day.
“It was a solid race, it was close and a battle the whole day,” Williams said later. “Had to come from the back so it made it even more fun.”
Then he thanked his parents and everyone that helps him.
The Junior 1 race was between leader Cooper Perez and Isaiah Nobles. They soon left everyone in their wake and proceeded to turn their feature into a two-driver race.
The gap between first got large, then shrank only to extend in the final laps. Cooper won with a big gap while Nobles settled for the runner up spot.
Asked about the race Perez said, “It was fun, good competition.”
Then he thanked Invader Racing Engines, Isaiah Nobles as well as his parents,
Once again Brooks Anderline won another Junior 2 main event. However this time there was some competition.
After the start Anderline took off while Andrew Cushman and Giovanni Medina were disputing second place. Eventually Medina took second and the chase was on.
Lap after lap he closed the distance to the leader. In the final laps Anderline was temporarily slowed by a lapper and the gap between he and Medina was shortened a bit.
At the finish Anderline won but Median was only eight tenths of a second behind him with Cushman running solo in third. This time it was a Invader Kart one, two, three finish.
While it almost looked easy the run wasn’t really that way for Anderline.
“Honestly I was driving hard and the kart got loose toward the end,” He said. “Catching the lappers is always hard. I was aware of the gap as my dad was telling me he (Medina) was closing in just a little bit.”
Then he thanked Cole Nelson Racing as well as his friends at the track.
When the 125-shifter main began Mitch Kennedy was on point with Jeff Wamre close behind. That didn’t last too long as Wamre and Adam Auerbach had a duel for second.
Up front Kennedy soon extended his lead and went into cruise control. At the end Wamre got a two second cushion as he ended up the runner up while Auerbach ended up a solo third.
“Well you know you make the most of the early part of the race cause that’s where everybody is so close to you,” Kennedy said. “Jeff’s that close then everything settled in pretty nice, get your comfort zone, track’s been the best it’s been all day and my tune up was perfect. So wasn’t much else to do but keep driving it, don’t miss any marks and get by the lappers, all in all a good day.”
When the green waved to start the Senior LO206 main Chase Dulude was on point but close behind was Jacob Ciari with Tanner Schultz in third. For several laps he leaders were close but eventually Dulude was able to pull a gap and finished a bit over two seconds ahead of Ciari.
“The kart felt incredible, it was much better than it’s been at any point today,” Dulude said. “In heat 2 my tires never came in so Jacob was able to get by me and we swapped the lead back and forth. We made a couple of changes to my kart and we able to be smooth, consistent and I didn’t make any of the mistakes I’ve made all weekend so was able to pull away. And I won.”
Then he thanked God and his parents. After that Dulude expressed his appreciation to sponsors Faultline Plumbing, F3 and Associates, Pizza Factor and a nice woman named Katherine.
“They sponsored me, allowed me to get this kart and apparently it’s working,” he said.
When the Masters LO026 race began once again Jeff Wamre was on point. This time however Rachael Williams wasn’t too far behind and chased him all the way to the finish where she finished a solid second.
After the winning and asked about Williams he said, “I know she’s getting better and that’s a good thing. That’s what we’re trying to do. I had to pay attention. I’m hoping everybody gets faster and that’s kind of why I’m running so that I got someone to chase and get better.
“Got to thank Steve Dow again for the kart and the helper guys for helping me out this weekend and the kart track, club members and all that.”
This time there were only three TAG racers and when their feature began veteran Chris Bender was on point but eventually faded as the race progressed.
The race then turned into a two-driver duel between William Owen and Robert Judd. In the end Judd got the victory but for now the class is too small to earn points.
The goal is to get more drivers that have these TAG karts to return to racing.

• Saturday there was another drift even at the Fernley 95A road course. Adrian Buyetn was the promoter and very pleased with the attendance although the even was moved.
“We had landed the police training facility and we had assigned contract, everything ready to go,” he said. “A week before this date they called us up and said they canceled the event.”
Not wanting to lose the event Buyten acted swiftly and moved it back to the Fernley facility.
“We’re back where we love. We were trying to get training facility because it’s a lot more expensive at this place than there so our price point was a lot cheaper. It’s tough times so we’re trying to offer where people are able to drift at a way cheaper price and that place was in town.”
The other location would have been in town and less expensive that could have been the opportunity to hold more events.
“We’ve got a good turn and the drift community is growing and everybody is happy the event is going,” he said.
With the current event doing well he’s looking into the future.
“All of our drift events are an 80’s theme cause we’re all a bunch of 80’s babies. So this one is called Out Run like the 80’s arcade game,” he said. “We’ve got our Maxium Overdrive event in October and then we’ll probably get one more in before the end of the season.”
Buyten not only was pleased but people kept arriving. In fact in a later video he mention some, including a team and other drivers that came up from Las Vegas.
So despite the last minute move it appears the drifting events are being well received and he’s planning more.
