RENO, NV (June 17) – Racing Preview has cruises, car meets and an annual car show. In addition there is only only race in Northern Nevada but some to watch on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• The weekend begins Friday when the annual Yerington’s Main Street Car Show starts its two-day run. Cars will be on display from 7 until 4 p.m. both days.
• Also on Friday is the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. The assembly point is the Wigwam and the cruise from 7 until 9 p.m. starts where the signal for 95A is then goes east to the round about and returns.
• Reno Cars and Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, has its second meet of the month. Once again it will be at Del Real Pub and Grill on the west side of Reno.
So the weekend, where we celebrate the start of summer, has plenty for everyone to enjoy especially car people.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• First, some sad news for local race fans. The Health Department over in Quincy won’t open the fairgrounds until the end of the year. This means no racing at American Valley Speedway in 2020 and the annual 4th of July music festival is canceled.
• There will be some racing this weekend in Elko. The Summit Raceway has a Friday-Saturday show. Gates open at 3 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the on track action begins.
RACING (MOTORCYCLES):
• Over in Fernley the motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex should have practice Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Over the hill at MMX Racing there will be two days of practice. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. uses the main, sand and kids tracks. The vintage track is reserved for an OSMX ride day. Then Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m., the Main, Vintage, Sand and Kids tracks are open to all.
• The three REP Racing tracks will also have practice.
+ E Street MX Park: From 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront: Thursday from 5 until l0 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ Prairie City is a go so there will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Saturday Fox Sports 1 broadcasts two races from Talladega. The ARCA series takes to the track at 1 p.m. then at 2:30 the Xfinity series races on the high banks.
• On Sunday two series race but one ends its season. NBC at 1 p.m. carries the final Supercross race of this year. Again it’s from Salt Lake City.
It also marks the retirement of former champion Chad Reed. He and his wife married when they were 18 then headed from their home in Australia so he could make his mark in American motorcycle racing. Now it’s time for him to step back and retire as a racer.
• NASCAR Cup drivers get their chance on the high banks of Talladega at noon when Fox broadcasts their race. Some new regulations for the cars have been implemented but there is usually at least one big wreck during a race.
