RACING PREVIEW: MAY 7 TO 10

RENO, NV (MAY 6) – Racing Preview this week has more news about things starting to happen or will happen in the near future. Some events are postponed so this fall will be a busy time.

CAR MEETS AND PARADES:

• When this article was posted Sparks Cars & Coffee had not posted if they were going to have a meet/cruise on Sunday or not. One might want to check their Facebook page sometime Friday.

• Saturday afternoon will be a big day for both Reno Cars & Coffee as well as Carson Cars & Coffee and anyone else that might want to join them.

Reno Cars & Coffee along with Carson Cars & Coffee will have a cruise/parade to salute those working at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

At 2 p.m. there will be a parade going by the Carson Tahoe hospital to salute the front line workers there. A good way to show one’s appreciation for their medical staff.

Then from 4 until 5 p.m. there is a birthday parade to help three little girls, Cyriah, Cheyenne and Cheyelle’s celebrate their birthdays. The address for assembly is 700 Ophir Court in Dayton. A great way to enjoy the evening and make these three sisters feel really special.

This afternoon Lance Freitas announced that in June there will be a cruise night at the south Steak ‘n Shake. Poster courtesy Lance Freitas.

• Late this afternoon Lance Freitas announced that starting in June, on Tuesday evenings from 5 until 9 p.m. there will be a cruise night at the south Steak ‘n Shake. All makes are welcome.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Announcement for postponed Gold Diggers race in the MRANN series.

• First of all, the BBMX race scheduled for this weekend has been canceled while the Gold Diggers MRANN race slated for next week has been postponed until November.

I understand the annual round of the OTHG Nationals is being discussed. Hopefully that will be a go for Memorial Day but have to wait and see what happens.

• Top Gun Drag Strip has been talking with Churchill County and sadly they’ve had to cancel all the tentative May dates so the first race weekend will be June 12 to 14.

NNKC has canceled it’s May race so will start the series in June.

• Northern Nevada Kart Club has canceled it’s May race so the first one for 2020 will be Sunday June 7 although club members can still practice at the track.

• Rattlesnake Raceway is open for private practice sessions. One needs to go to their website, www.rattlesnakeraceway.net and use the contact part. A board member will have to be present and there is a limit as to how many people can be at the session.

• VORRA had a live feed Saturday and announced some changes. The Yerington race is being moved to the more traditional date of Labor Day weekend. This will allow for a poker run, parade and race that weekend.

If there is enough interested there could be a race at Wild West Motorsports Park in June and as of now the Fallon race is still a go. However the Fort Sage race might not happen.

Best in the Desert had a virtual Town Hall meeting last Friday and now there is a survey for the Silver State 300. If 90% want to race that event will happen sometime in June. Depends on the survey as the next scheduled race will be in August.

There will be two practice sessions at the new motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex. Photo courtesy – Photoflight Productions.

• Over in Fernley 95 Motor Sports Complex has two practice sessions at its new motocross track this week. On Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. then form 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday. Just remember social distancing when you park and are in the pits.

• Over the hill three motocross track will have practice sessions this week through the weekend. They also insist on social distancing.

MMX has racing from Wednesday through Sunday on its tracks.

+ MMX Racing starts Thursday from 3 until dark on the sand and kid’s tracks. Then Friday from noon until 5 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks.

Saturday has a session from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks then on Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. on the vintage, main, sand and kid’s tracks.

+ REP racing has practice on two of its tracks but riders are limited in number so be sure to register on line for your spot. The website is www.repracingmx.com.

+ Riverfront has double sessions Thursday and Sunday with the first from 9 until 2 p.m. while the second runs from 5 until 10 p.m. Friday is Mini night, one rider and parent please, from 4 until 9 p.m.

+ E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks. Once again remember to register online.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• While Indy Car is finished with its Simracing series NASCAR has one more Invitational race left. The venue is the classic North Wilksboro, North Carolina track. For years this small oval was part of the Winston Cup Circuit.

Keeping with the retro theme many cars will have retro paint schemes while the virtual track itself will have signage from those by gone days. The race begins at noon, will be shown on FOX and if one misses it you can see it later on You Tube.

After this week NASCAR returns to live racing but Darlington probably won’t have spectators in the grandstands. The next Indy Car race will be live and from Texas and teams, like those in NASCAR, are already preparing for their seasons to begin or resume.

Hopefully in our region tracks can resume racing in June. The tracks in Quincy and Susanville are still waiting word when they can have live racing.

That’s it for this weekend, hoping for even better news next time. Be safe out there everyone.
