RENO, NV (April 29) — This weekend’s Racing Preview has some new developments, a great cruise as well as other racing news and programs to watch. The month of May just might bring us live racing once again.
CAR MEETS:
• Reno Cars & Coffee will have it’s first of the month meet at the Keitzke Starbucks. As usual the meet time is 10 a.m. and people are asked to either stay in their cars or remember social distancing.
Then at 10:20 everyone will leave for a long cruise that takes them south over Kingsbury Pass, north along Lake Tahoe and back over to the Mount Rose Ski Resort for pictures and lunch, something everyone needs to bring along.
RACING (REGIONAL FOR CARS):
• For all that race in the Best in the Desert series there will be a virtual Town Hall on their Face Book page at 2 p.m. Friday May 1st. Questions will be answered as well as the series announcing its plans for this season.
• Saturday brings a test and tune session to the oval at 95 Motor Sports Complex south of downtown Fernley. Times are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and social distancing is mandatory. Should be a great time to get out and see how one’s racecar is doing.
RACING (REGIONAL FOR MOTORCYCLES):
• Thursday, from 2 until 7 p.m. the motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex is open for practice. People are asked to park at least 20 feet apart and social distancing is required. Of course that’s not a problem for a rider on the track.
Then Saturday the track, from 9 until 2 p.m. has another open practice session. Should be a good reason to stay in our area and get familiar with this track.
• Over the hill in Northern California there are three motocross tracks that have practice sessions. Once again all three ask you observe social distancing in the pits so they can stay open.
• The following schedule is for MMX Racing:
+ Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. for the Sand and Kids tracks.
+ Friday from noon until 5 p.m. for the Main, Sand and Kids tracks.
+ Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. the Main, Sand and Kids tracks.
+ Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. the Vintage, Main and Kids tracks will be available.
• For REP Racing’s tracks Riverfront and E Street will have limited riders. To secure a spot they ask you sign up at the webite, www.repracingmx.com. And be sure to observe social distancing so they can remain open.
+ Riverfront hae two sessions Thursday and Sunday with limited riders. The first is from 8 until 1 p.m. while the second runs from 1 until 7 p.m.
Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. is for Mini riders only and they ask only one parent with each rider please.
• E Street has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday but remember one has to register on the website for their spot. And once again social distancing should be observed.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• First some not so good news for fans of Moto GP. BBC announced the German, Dutch and Finnish rounds have been canceled.
• Indy Car will have another of its Sim Races this Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. on NBC Sports. This time they will tackle the Indianapolis Motor Speedway so I believe it may be on the oval although it could be on the road course.
• Sunday, on Fox and Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. is when the next NASCAR Invitational race will be held. This week it’s on the Monster Mile at Dover.
Last week Denny Hamlin suddenly dropped out of the race for no known reason. Seems his child, watching daddy race accidentally turned off his simulator. I imagine this week mom will be watching him a bit closer.
If any of our readers misses these events you can usually see them later on www.youtube.com. It’s amazing just how this type of racing has evolved from just gaming to showing racing.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• On Wednesday evening Reno Cars & Coffee as well as others staged another birthday cruise/parade. This time it was to celebrate the 75th birthday of Jerry Adams.
It’s been a rough year for her but hopefully the parade helped cheer her up and celebrate reaching the three quarters of a century mark.
• Once again Terresa’s Garage Radio Show will be on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully soon we can return to the studio.
The show covers all things automotive and I have preview section at 2:15. Those in the Reno/Sparks area can hear us live on 1180 AM or on a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm. We can also be seen live on Face Book.
