RENO, NV (Mar. 19) — Thursday is the first day of spring and there are a few car meets, a race in our area plus a bunch on TV and the Internet. The car and motorsport buffet is almost full.
CAR MEETS:

• Once again the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling at 8 a.m. Thursday. Meeting place is Kim’s Donut and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Sunday, from 10 until noon, Sparks Cars & Coffee holds its second meeting of the month. Location is the Starbucks on Disc Drive in Spark, which is at the south end of Spanish Springs.
RACING (4-WHEEL):

• Need 2 Speed has indoor kart racing all year. They are moving so one can either race at the current location or in April at the new location in the Northtowne Marketplace.
• Only a couple of weeks left before area oval tracks begin their 2025 season. Then green flags will wave again in our region.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

• This weekend the Western States Racing Association is staging the next MRANN Race. Location is north of I-80 off the Nightingale exit east of Fernley.
-Saturday is when the Pee Wee riders plus 100, 65, Women and Bombers race on a shorten course. Sunday starting at 8:45 a.m. is when each of the big bike classes have their turn doing two laps around at 45-mile long track.

• REP Racing MX put out their schedule for this coming week. Prairie City from 8 until 2 p.m. has OTHG Ride day then on Sunday, at those same times, its open practice.
- Riverfront MX is closed by the Sandbox MX In Fernley is open. Saturday, from 10 until 3 p.m. its OCMX Ride Day and Sunday, at those same times is Open Practice.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX Racing on Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. has practice on the Main, Kid’s and Sand tracks. Then on Sunday, from 9 until three the Vintage track has OSMX Ride Day while the other three tracks have open practice.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday at 6:05 p.m. ESPN+ has Formula 1 Academy practice from Shanghai, China. Then at 5:25 p.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice.
At 11:05 p.m. ESPN+ returns with Formula 1 Academy qualifying.
• On Friday, at 11:55 p.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying.

• This weekend all three top NASCAR series visit Homestead-Miami Speedway. Once again it’s all behind a pay wall. However, www.youtube.com has highlights after each race.

• On Saturday Peacock comes on at 10:30 a.m. as they braodcast Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. the netwok has Round 10 of this year’s AMA Supercross series from Birmingham.
- At 2 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Indy Car Qualifying from the Thermal Club track in California. Then at 5 p.m. the network airs NHRA Qualifying #1 from the Arizona Nationals.
- The day ends at 11:55 when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Shanghai, China. Remember if one misses the live broadcast highlights will be shown later on You Tube.
• Sunday starts at 9 a.m. when Fox Sports has NHRA Qualifying Show #2.
- At noon Fox has the Indy Car Race from the Thermal Club track.

- Finally at 3:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 comes back with the final rounds from the NHRA Arizona Nationals outside of Phoenix.
That’s it for this weekend. Looks like early summer weather this weekend so it will be a great time to get out to the car shows and maybe the MRANN event.

• Next week is Amateur Days that starts two weekends of racing at the Hangtown Motocross Classic which ends the following weekend with round two of the Outdoor Series. If you want to be up close and personal to the action now is the time to apply to be a flagger at the event.

• Next week the Convention Center is going be busy. The Reno Boat Show on Thursday gets things going. Then from Friday through Sunday it’s the Reno RV Show plus the Off-Road an Motorsports Expo. Something for almost everybody.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
