RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: MAR. 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (Mar. 5) — After a short blast of not-so-spring-like weather the weekend looks good for car meets and some racing. Should be a good one.

Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday.

REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR SATURDAY NIGHT AS SUNDAY STARTS DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME.

CAR MEETS:

Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling early Thursday morning.

• The Iron Mafia again gets the weekend rolling with its Thursday morning car meet, they do this no matter what the weather is. Starting time is 8 a.m. and the location is Kim’s Donut & Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Garderville.

Battle Born Harley Davidson in Carson hosts the four-day Luck of the Irish show.

• This weekend, starting Thursday is when the Luck of the Irish show is at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City. There will be motorcycles, trucks and RV’s as well as music, food and raffles.

Vintage Euro Cars & Coffee meets Saturday morning.

• Since it’s the second Saturday of the month the Vintage Euro Cars & Coffee will be meeting. Times are from 9 until 11 and the location is the Summit Mall near the Starbucks.

4-Wheel Parts by Meadowood Mall had Madness in March this Saturday.

• For all you off road types 4-Wheel parts stores are celebrating Madness in March. The one in Reno is located at 5405 Meadowood Circle in Reno.

• On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., Sparks Cars & Coffee meets. Had a good turnout last time. Location is the Starbucks at 171 Disc Drive in Sparks, the south end of Spanish Springs.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

The annual Mint 400 runs this weekend.

• This is the weekend of the annual Mint 400. Some of the program is at Fremont Street in Las Vegas but the racing is outside of Primm, Nevada. For further information and where one can see a live feed please check, www.themint400.com.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

This weekend’s schedule for REP Racing MX.

• REP Racing MX has open practice from 10 until 3 p.m. at the Sandbox MX track in Fernley. Prairie City has a OCMX ride day from 9 until 2 Saturday then on Sunday its open practice at that same time.

E Street MX Park is going to be a busy place this weekend.

• E Street is hosting the Yuba River Run Hare Scrambles this weekend. There will be racing both days.

MMX Racing has both racing and practice this weekend.

• MMX Racing is hosting two days of racing, I believe it’s a make up for a earlier rain out Frigid 8 event. From 9 until 2 race practice is on the Sand track while regular practice is on the Main and Kid’s tracks. Sunday is race day using the sand track but practice will happen from 9 until 3 p.m. on the Vintage, Main and Kid’s tracks.

RACING (NATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR racing schedule.

• Well once again all the NASCAR action is behind pay walls. Here is the weekend’s schedule but remember one can see the highlights of each race on www.youtube.com.

• Thursday, at 7 p.m., Fox Sports 1 carried Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

• Saturday is when AMA Supercross moves to Indianapolis. Peacock carries it and at 10:30 a.m. its Race Day Live with the first gate drop at 4 p.m. Here again one can watch the highlights on You Tube.

• The NHRA begins its season at Gainsville Dragway this weekend and Fox Sports 1 handles the action. On Saturday at 5 p.m. its Qualifying Show #1 followed at 6 p.m. by the Top Fuel All Star Call Out.

• Fox Sports 1 carries the load Sunday as they show the NHRA Qualifying show at 9:30 a.m. then at 3 p.m. air the finals for the Gator Nationals.

That’s it for this weekend. Have a safe one and if possible visit one of the car meets.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

If you haven’t signed up for this year’s VCGP be sure to do so soon.

• This year all pre-entries for the Virginia City Grand Prix will be on-line. No entries will be accepted on race weekend.

The drawings for the starting numbers at the VCGP will be on March 29.
  • Another reason to register early is the annual Pre-Race Drawing Party will start at 5 p.m. March 29 at the Red Dog Saloon. Makes for a wild night.
Here’s an opportunity for someone.

• This an opportunity if you can operate heavy equipment and want to help the motocross community. It’s three days a week and you’ll help keep the Sandbox MX track in Fernley in excellent shape.

Sign ups are open for next week’s first round of the spring BBMX season.

• Sign ups are not open for the opening round of the spring BBMX season. The race is only a week away and it will make things a lot smoother.
