RENO, NV (Feb 1.) — The AMA Kicker Arenacross visited the Reno-Sparks Livestock Center this weekend. On Friday and Saturday the pros raced Rounds 8 and 9 of the 10-race series.
The night began wish pros signing autographs then it was time for the show. First there were heat races, a B main as the field was set for the main events.
One of the supporting races was the Micro Open Limited for riders 4 to 8-years-old. Sparks rider Jude Fye won both races but he had to work for the final.
Later, just before the final AX Pro main the 85cc, 9 to 15 riders lined up. Another Sparks rider, Kalvin Roberts scoredthe victory while Isaac Bryant, from Winnemucca ended up second over all.
One interesting race was the Kicker Clash that pitted gas powered bikes against E Bikes, it’s a Dash for Cash event. This fall Arenacross began to have a class for E bikes.
When the gate dropped Ryan Breece and Vince Friese took off and left everyone in their wake. The finished one-two while four place Justin Bogle was the highest placed of the e Bikes now classed as X Pro.
The big pro class, or AX Pro has two mains to determine their over winner for the day.
When the gate dropped for the first of two AX Pro mains Austin Politelli took off with Vince Friese and Ryan Breece giving chase. Eventually Friese took the point with teammate Breese claiming second.
Behind them early leader Politelli slipped to fourth while Reno racer Aaron Siminoe ended up a solid fifth after finishing second in his heat race.
After a support race it was time for the XPro main. Michael Hicks scored the victory with Justin Bogle ending up second.
Now it was time for the final race of the night when the AX Pros had their final main for the night. A rider’s combined finish determined they overall place.
At the gate drop the field roared toward a left turn. Up front Friese and his teammate Breece held the first two positions. Behind them were Politelli and Michael Hicks.
Further back Aaron Siminoe, from Reno claimed another solid fifth place finish. Behind him Sparks racer Austin Walton finish 9th in the first main and 8th in the second.
Before receiving his trophy Friese said, “Got out front early and put together clean laps. The track was tricky and it was about who wanted to push the edge the most. Not so much technical as we’re riding on the knife-edge trying to find the speed on the track.
“It’s pretty high speed for Arenacross, they opened it up a lot. It’s just riding on a knife-edge out there and who wants to push the limit the most.”
After this Friese said he’s got a points lead and hope it’s enough to kind of loosen up for the final two rounds in Arizona. Then he thanked Moto Concepts and the whole crew for being awesome.
Next stop for the series is Prescott, Arizona where the final two rounds will be contested and overall championship trophies handed out.
