RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JAN. 30 TO FEB. 2

RENO, NV (Jan. 29) — Well here we are, it’s Chinese New Year, and racing returns to our area for this weekend. Not to mention car meets and a special NASCAR race on TV.

CAR MEETS:

PLEASE NOTE THESE MEETS WILL DEPEND ON HOW MUCH WEATHER WE’LL BE GETTING.

• Iron Mafia starts the weekend at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts and Tea Shop at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Sunday has two meets not far from each other.

  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets starting at 10 a.m. at the Human Bean Coffee Shop. Location is at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane.
Reno Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean located by the corner of Moana an Keitzke Lanes.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• Local tracks will be dark until we get well into March. But soon green flags will fly again.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• Big News for our area is the return for the Kicker Arenacross series. The pros race Friday, where there is a pit party, and Saturday. Things usually get rolling around 6 p.m.

Big Valley Honda has tickets to Arenacross.

You can also buy tickets at Big Valley Honda and save yourself a service charge.

Kicker Arenacross is reaching out to thank First Responders and up to five members of their families.

They are also offering free tickets to First Responders. They need ID when picking them up and they can also get five tickets or their family.

  • Sunday, after the track has been altered, it’s Amateur Day. Heats and mains to follow.
The track hosts the current round of the Frigid 8 Series.

• Over at the Oatfield Raceway this weekend they’ll run the next round of the P.R.O. Frigid 8 Winter series. To register online please go to www.ampgfimx.com.

• E Street MX Park, due to the incoming weather, has canceled the Sierra OTHG race this weekend

• When this was posted MMX Racing had not posted a weekend schedule. Best bet is to check their page before heading out.

Due to the incoming stormy weather REP Racing MX has a reduced schedule this weekend.

• With weather heading our way REP Racing MX has closed both Riverfront MX and Prairie City MX. However the Fernley Sand Box MX will have practice from 10 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL):

It’s King of the Hammers week. You can see the events on You Tube.

• To the south, this is the week for King of the Hammers event. Due to weather they had to hold off for two days.

They also have cross-country motocross but the rest is everything from trucks and buggies. The event runs through February 8.

• Thursday and Friday are pretty empty so go to www.youtube.com and watch events from King of the Hammers. It’s the most insane off-road event you’ll ever see.

AMA Supercross is in Glendale, Arizona this Saturday.

•This Saturday the AMA Supercross moves to Glendale, Arizona. Peacock, at 2:30 p.m. has Race Day Live. Then at 5 p.m. the network will air the heats. LCQ’s and the Mains.

• This weekend is when NASCAR begins its 2025 season. This time they are at the Bowman Gray Stadium and race around the football field.

Here is the TV and Internet schedule for the NASCAR Clash race this weekend.

On Saturday, Fox Sports 1 has the Modified race as well as Cup practice and heat races. Sunday everything switches to FOX. It’s going to be a crazy event with Cup cars on such a short track.

This Saturday MRANN hosts its awards banquet at Boomtown. They’ll honor their 2024 Champions and the top 20 will use special plates numbers for this season.
