NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB AWARDS BANQUET

RENO, NV (Jan. 11) — Saturday the Northern Nevada Kart Club held its annual awards banquet. The site was the clubhouse at Arrowhead Golf Course.

There were tables full of raffle prizes but the one many came to see and share was the table full of trophies.

Prior to the festivities new club president Kelsey Nelson share her thoughts about the coming season.

“I want to improve the racing with a focus on safety,” she said. “Want to work on improving the track and encourage more people to come out and see the races as well as encourage more to join us.”

After a very nice dinner it was time to start handing out the hardware.

The top 5 Kid Kart drivers. Presley Prater is the 2024 champion.

First up was the Kid Kart class, which is comprised of the youngest racers that are earning their racing spurs. They use low power karts and have short heats and main events.

  • At season’s end Presley Prater won the championship followed by Ryan Knight, who was only 10 points behind him. Third place was Brooks Morrisey while Claire Morrisey and Makenzie Kephart ended up fourth and fifth in points.
Juniort 1 Rookie top five. Jesse Shriver is the 2024 champion.

Junior 1 Rookie started last year for those coming out of the Kid Kart division. It’s a safety measure to allow these drivers, that are in more powerful and faster karts, to make the transition.

  • Jesse Shriver is the champion while Drake Kephart was the runner up. Third through fifth place was Paisley Purdy, Brooklyn Knight and Gunner Yochum.
Top 5 for the Junior 1 Class. Cash Prater is the 2024 champion.

Junior 1’s champion is Cash Prater, who finished just 30 points ahead of runner up Kipton Bocchi. The next three places were Owen Hanson, Jameson Morrisey and Harrison Oziminski

Once a driver reaches a certain age they move up to the next class; Junior 2. This is the last one before moving into the faster classes.

Junior 2 and Isaiah Manubi is the champion.
  • Isaiah Manubi is the 2024 champion with Landen Warren in second. Bryce Benton was third while Pheonix Ciorciari and Tyler Hanson were fourth and fifth.

After Junior 2, racers move into faster and more powerful karts. These classes are full of teenagers, adults and some senior drivers.

Brooks Anderline is the 2024 Senior LO206 champion.
  • Brooks Anderline added the Senior LO206 title to the many he’s earned over the years. The runner up was Giovanni Medina and following him were Nathan Heath, Carter Chaffey and William Amster.
The Heavy LO206 champion is Kelsey Nelson.

Next is the Heavy LO206 Class and incoming NNKC president Kelsey Nelson is the 2024 champion. Josh Prater was the runner up and third through fifth was Nathan Heath, Jake Burchette and one of the more senior racers, Steve Dow.

The KA100 Senior champion is Giovanni Medina.

There are two KA100 Classes and they both race together. Giovanni Medina is the Senior champion followed by runner-up Stevie-Ray Rosario, third place Douglas Stewart and Joseph Huet, who ended up in fourth.

Only two KA100 Master driver were present. Ben Fisher is the 2024 champion.
  • Next are the KA100 Masters, which is comprised of more senior drivers. Ben Fisher is the champion followed by Cody McKinney, Nat Sombatsiri, McMullen and Brandon Carlson.

The championships and trophies are awarded to club members. One large class is Pro 4-Cycle but points leader Zach Sieveri wasn’t a club member so didn’t win the championship.

Jeremy Clark is the 2024 Pro 4-Cycle champion.
  • First club member, and the 2024 champion, was Jeremy Clark with Raymond Smithson only 20 points behind him. Third through fifth were Brud Beaudoin, Alec Beaudoin and Rachael Williams.

The 125 Shifter classes, and there are two of them, are the fastest class of kart racers. They also use a standing start while the others use a rolling start.

The F125 ROK Class champion is Zeke Corson.
  • Zeke Corson, who used an ROK motor, was the 2024 champion and usually finished first overall in his races. Runner up was Mitch Kennedy followed by Jeff Wamre, Javier Avila and non- NNKC member Beth Huntley while the next club member, who earned the fifth place trophy was Albert Diaz.
F215 Honda division winner is Brooks Anderline.
  • The other motor used is a Honda and Brooks Andereline was the champion of that group. He was followed by runner-up Turbo Sombatsiri, Gerry Williams, Jesse Goodrum and Kevin Jerome.
  • Later Anderline, who has won 11 titles during his time racing with NNKC, allowed there are changes coming. This year he’s switching to Legends Cars so he’ll be spending more of his time over in California where they race.

Next up were special awards the club gives out to individuals that have had a great season.

Junior Rookie-of-the-year, Jesse Shriver.
  • The Junior Rookie-of-the year went to Jessie Shriver, who competes in Junior 1 Rookie.
Most Improved Junior Driver was Owen Hanson.
  • The Most Improved Junior went to Junior 1 racer Owen Hanson.
Junior Driver-of-the-Year is Landen Warren.
  • The Junior Driver of the year was Junior 1 racer Landen Warren.
Senior Rookie of the Year is Joseph Huet.
  • Moving up to the Senior Class the Rookie-of-the-Year was Joseph Huet.
Most Improved Senior driver is Penny King.
  • The Most Improved Senior Driver award went to Penny King.
Giovanni Medina is the Senior Driver of the Year.
  • Giovanni Medina was named the Senior Driver of the Year.
Clint Hanson was named the Volunteer of the Year.
  • The Volunteer of the Year goes to an individual that helps the club all through the year. For his efforts in 2024 Clint Hanson was given this special award.

Every awards banquet ends with a very special award the Karter of the Year Trophy. Their name is added to those that have made the NNKC what it is today.

Jazz Manning was named the Karter of the Year for her work in helping the club.

The 2024 Karter of the Year trophy went to Jazz Manning.

  • Asked what this means to her, she said, “It’s way above and beyond. This is more for the club.”
The 2025 schedule for NNKC.

Coming up, on February 23 the track, Desert Raceway Park is being repaved if the weather cooperates. There is a track workday scheduled for March.

Then the first race of 2025 is scheduled for June 1 with a possible rain date on June 22 is Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. With one exception, the annual night race on August 23rd, race weekends have practice Saturday and Sunday is race day.

The Chili Bowl Nationals from Tulsa really gets going Monday, January 3. It’s carried live on www.floracing.com.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

Davey’s American Racing keeps track of west coast and national series.

He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
