RENO, NV (Jan. 5) — As we head into the New Year this article will be a little different. I’ll highlight where one can see the Dakar Rally but my primary focus is on the schedules for our area.
INTERNATIONAL RACING:
On the other side of the world the Dakar Rally is going on right now. Location is in Saudi Arabia and one can see highlights every day on www.youtube.com.
Some highlights are long while others focus on certain groups and are shorter. In certain areas the competitors need to be careful, as there are herds of camels to be wary of.
OVAL TRACKS:
• Lovelock Speedway gets things rolling with a test and tune day on March 29 then rolls into its schedule in April.
• Rattlesnake Raceway starts racing on the weekend of April 18 & 19 as they their into their schedule.
- This year Royce Goetz is promoting Outlaw Karts. The same classes that competed in the High Desert Hustle will run.
- The races start at 2 p.m. so they are over when the big cars are ready. Many of these racers are the next generation earning their racing spurs.
• Moving east Summit Raceway in Elko starts its season the weekend or April 25 and 26. From there the season rolls on through September.
• Moving west Winnemucca Regional begins its season on the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd. The season ends with two races in September.
– The 2024 WRRA Banquet will be held on January 20 at Winners Casino. Dinner starts at 6 .m. with awards following.
• Battle Mountain Raceway gets its season rolling on the weekend of May 16-17. Like most tracks they are using a Friday-Saturday format.
• When this report was posted the Sierra Nevada Sprint Car series had not posted its 2025 schedule. I’ll post that when I receive it later.
• Tonopah Speedway had not posted a schedule yet.
• One group that races at several tracks are the Dwarf Cars of Northern Nevada. They also race in California and this year’s Western States Dwarf Car National will be run at Winnemucca.
• On a sad note Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville and Quincy Speedway in Quincy apparently will be dark this season. Hopefully someone will start them up next year or later this year.
• Still no word on Fernley 95A Speedway.
NON-OVAL SERIES:
• The Northern Nevada Kart Club races on the road course at Desert Park Raceway. Their season starts on Sunday, May 4. With one exception, the annual night race in August, all the races are on Sunday.
• Top Gun Drag Strip begins its season the first weekend in May with Friday being for testing and tuning. Saturday is when the ET series begins and the day ends with the annual potluck dinner and 2024 awards. Sunday is when the second set of ET races are run.
OFF ROAD:
• There are two off-road series that race in Nevada. Legacy Racing Association is based in the south. They begin the year with the Parker Dam 500. Dates are February 19-23 and the race is outside of Parker, Arizona.
• This season the Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) begins its desert season the weekend of Marsh 21-23. The race is the Prospector 250 held outside of Yerington In June VORRA and Legacy team up for the Baja Nevada event.
MOTORCYCLES:
• MRANN starts their off-road season the weekend of February 16-17. This first race of the season is hosted by the Trailblazers Motor Cycle Club off the Nightingale Exit of I-80.
• After last year Battle Born MX decided to split the season so there will be two champions. First round of the spring series is on March 15-16 at the Sandbox in Fernley.
This series travels across Nevada and some races are in California. The fall series starts in Marysville at Riverfront MX and ends in early November at the Sand Box in Fernley.
• The annual AMA National Hare & Hound series will make a stop on May 10-11 in Winnemucca. Probably by the motocross course.
That’s it for this time. For racers and fans the seasons are about to begin.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• This weekend the Northern Nevada Kart Club begins the annual awards ceremonies. Location is the Arrow Creek Club House where the trophies from the 2024 season.
- After the sponsor section I’m including a photo gallery with the 2024 NNKC champions. Have to thank the club for supplying those.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
