HIGH DESERT HUSTLE 2025 VISITS RENO

RENO, NV (Jan 2) — The High Desert Hustle 2025 visited the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events center this week. They ended 2024 and started 2025 with a bang, a road and some action packed short track racing.

After the first day the other three were full of racing as the event headed toward the last day when the big payouts happened. For one young racer it would a banner week.

Before Thursday night’s 500 Open A Main the field lined up for driver introductions.

Topping Thursday’s racing card was the 500 Open Class. Prior to their feature the field lined up on the front straight for driver introductions.

The 500 Open field salutes the crowd with a 4-wide lap befoer their race began.

Then before the 40-lap main began the drivers did a 4-wide salute to the fans in attendance.

In the 500 Open race winner Braxton Foster was chased by Connor Mewhirter.

When the green waved Braxton Foster jumped into he lead with Colby Copeland and Connor Mewhirter giving chase. Soon after that the first of many cautions happened.

There would be at last seven that slowed the pace. On each restart Mewhirter challenged Foster but the young driver kept the lead.

After scoring his second win Thursday night Braxton stands with his trophy.

When the checkered flags waved Foster claimed the victory and the biggest payout of the week. The 11-year-old racer won $10,000 for this victory and scored his double-double for the week.

Asked what it meant he said, “It’s very cool, its like the best thing ever and I can never believe I did that. He (Mewhirter) was so close but thankfully he was being nice to me.”

Then he thanked several sponsors including Demo, and Allstate. Foster also gave his appreciation to his parents and everyone that supports him.

After being in second Braxton Foster made the winning pass when he got by Brody Reinolds.

Earlier he also scored the 250 Intermediate. In that race it took him a while to get around early leader Brody Reinolds as they raced nose-to-tail.

Asked about his 250 victory Foster said, “He (Reinolds) was being a little annoying but I still got it.”

In that 250 Intermediate 30-Lap main on the green Brody Reinolds was on point with Foster right on his back bumper.

Early on there were a couple of cautions caused when karts tangled then one had a race-stopping event when a kart rolled. Drivers in these karts are strapped in, have a cage around them and usually their arms are tethered.

Finally going through Turn 2 Foster saw his chance and slipped by Reinolds. After that he took off and scored his first of two victories, which earned him $3,000.

Carson Sousa take the checkered flag as he wins the Caged Clone main.

The Caged Clone karts don’t have wings. On the green Carson Sousa took off but soon slowed due to one kart stalling in Turn 3.

Once racing resumed Sousa was on point. The pace was slowed at least three more cautions but each time Sousa was able to hold off runner up Drew Landgren and Case Harris, who finished third.

After winning Thursday’s Cage Clone main Carson Sousa stands in victory cirlce.

The victory was worth $1,500 to Souza.

Deegan Pochop on his way to winning the Box Stock main.

Earlier, the second feature of the night, was the Box Stock main. It took two attempts but finally the field got going with Deegan Pochop on point.

During the race there were four cautions and one red flag period after a kart rolled.

In the end Pohop won the feature and the young man collected $2,000 for his efforts.

Jaxson Evett on his way to winning the Beginner Box Stock main.

Starting the racing night were the Beginner Box Stock racers. At first Ryder Matthews was on point but after a caution Jaxson Evett took over the lead.

Lap after lap Evett extended his lead and would claim the victory. Matthews was the runner up and Nixon Soiland finished third.

The night itself, started with each class having some of their mains that let drivers move up into the next group. After the opening ceremonies each class had a dash then they preceded through the C to A mains so it was a full evening of racing.

• New Year’s Day had another evening of racing. There were qualifying races, heat races as well as mains where driver’s raced to move up into the next main.

The chase was on during the 500 Open Main on Wednesday. Braxton Foster was able to hold on to the lead.

Once again it was a great night for young Braxton Foster. He and Connor Mewhirter raced each other in the 500 Open A Main with Foster coming out on top.

In the Wednesday’s 250 Intermediate main winner Braxton Foster was chased by Logan Pike.

Then in the 250 Intermediate A Main Foster was chased by Logan Pike but came out on top. Pike was the runner up while Brody Reinolds ended up third.

On Wednesday Braxton Foster celebrated his first double of the week.

Asked about his first double of the week Foster said, “I got two wins. The most challenging was the 500. It’s very weird and they’re hard to drive. The track’s pretty rough but I got through it.”

Turned to be a pretty good payday for the young driver but the best was yet to come on Thursday.

In the Caged Clone 20-Lap A main Elijah Jones got the point and stormed off to score the victory ahead of Darin Spencer and third place Brian Lawson.

• There was racing, as well as a concert New Year’s Eve. Closing out 2024 Colby Copeland won the 500 Open A Main but there were no 205 Intermediate races.

The Box Stock A main was won by Deegan Pochop while Parker Pedreotti was the Beginner Box Stock A main winner.
