RENO, NV (Jan. 1) — Okay here we are as it’s 2025 and a New Year. Schedules are being released, car meets are happening and racing is getting going both Nationally and Internationally.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia has its weekly meeting on Friday this time. Starts at 8 a.m. and the location is Kim’s Donut and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• Two car groups meet on Sunday to get the New Year rolling.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets at the Human Bean coffee stand on the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane. Times are from 10 until noon,
- Reno Cars & Coffee meet at the Human Bean coffee stand located by the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes. Times are also 10 until noon.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Thursday is the marathon day for the High Desert Hustle and it begins with the kid’s classes staring early. Opening ceremonies are slated for 4:30 then the big classes race with the final worth $10,000 to the winner.
After this event we won’t have any racing in our region for a few weeks. However oval tracks have their schedules out and I’ll include those in Sunday’s article.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• This weekend E Street MX Park is hosting a round of the 2024 AMP Triple Crown. The event had to be rescheduled due to weather. This time it’s two days of racing.
• MMX Racing did have their Hangover Classic on New Year’s Day. On Thursday they’ll have practice from 9 until 2 on the sand and kid’s tracks.
- On Saturday practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main, Sand and Kids tracks. Then on Sunday practice is from 9 until 3 p.m. and the Vintage track is added to the mix.
• Rep Racing has practice at Prairie City but Riverfront MX is closed. The Sandbox has a private day Saturday but it’s open practice, from 10 until 3 p.m., on Sunday. Remember to register on line for the Sandbox at, www.repracingmx.com.
RACING (INTERNATIONAL & NATIONAL)
• Thursday, at 5 p.m., www.mavtv.com, will show the Dakar Rally Preview. The network might cover the event or one can see highlights on www.youtube.com.
• Saturday is the final day for this year’s Tulsa Shootout. This is for the Micro Sprints and Kyle Lewis, after winning a sprint car race in Australia hustled back and in competing in this event.
- A little over a week later the annual Chili Bowl Nationals begin. This is for the larger midget cars but it’s on the same indoor track. Everyone will be racing fore the Golden Driller trophy.
• The weekend is pretty well empty but there are places to go for racing, although most will be reruns. The alternatives are, www.dirtvision.com, www.motortrendondemand.com, www.floracing.com, and of course www.youtube.com.
