ANNUAL RENO TOY RUN FOR CHARITY

RENO, NV (Dec 8) – Sunday was the 44th Annual Reno Toy Run, which is organized by the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs. The meeting place was Reno Harley-Davidson located at 2315 Market Street.

Reno Harley-Davidson was very busy Sunday as it was the starting point for the annual Reno Toy Run

The dealership helps out the group as many ride Harleys. One person very happy with the event is Steven Daniel, the dealership’s general manager.

Reno Harley-Davidson general manager Steven Daniel is very heppy to support the Toy Run.

Asked if he’s happy to support the Toy Run he said, “Absolutely. You know it didn’t always start here. I know about 07 or 08, as long as I’ve worked here, it’s started at the dealership.

“We’re happy to support the event, happy to support the CoC, it’s always something we want to continue to work with them. It’s a great thing and a great cause.”

Registration was a very busy place as people signed up and after paying got a t-shirt and meal ticket.

Those registering for the Run got a t-shirt and a ticket for a meal at the end of the ride. The registration table was very busy during the morning as more and more riders showed up.

Another person, who was very busy and satisfied was Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs head Troy Rigas.

“It’s out 44th year, we’ll do registrations till about noon then we’ll ride over to South 40 and we’ll serve people food. When they buy a ticket the get a t-shirt to it’s a good value for their 25 dollars. The meal is going to be really good brisket, chicken and all the trimmings.

“I think today we should have between 1,000 to 1,400 people depending on who comes out because we have a beautiful day. No snow, no ice and they’re starting to form a line so it’s pretty good.”

Troy Rigas, head of the CoC stands by the donation barrels at the Reno Harley-Davidson dealership.

He won’t know how many toys were collected as they have barrels all over the area. The amount of money collected will also be included in the over all count.

“Hopefully at the end of the day we get enough to fill our needs and hopefully have enough to donate about 100 and 50 thousand dollars to local charities.”

He added that all the work is done by volunteers and no one is paid or even gets gas money. The only exception is if someone has to print something and that doesn’t cost very much.

“At the end of the year we’ll show you a transparency of what we made and where all the money went because we’re that kind of charity,” he said.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand for pictures and handing out candy canes.

One treat for all the family members that accompanied the riders was Santa and Mrs. Claus. The posed for pictures and Mrs. Claus was handing out candy canes both to the kids and adults that wanted one.

Just before the Toy Run began he collection barrels were put on a truck. They would be taken to a central collection point.

Just before noon the donation barrels were gathered and put on a truck to be taken to the main collection point.

When noon came Santa headed out to lead the Reno Toy Run.

Finally the Jolly Old Elf mounted his Harley three wheeler and headed down Market Street to the south.

Riders came out of the parking lot and street when the Toy Run began.

After that riders poured out of the dealership parking lot as well as the street. Not everyone was on a Harley as there were a bunch on street bikes and one woman rode her dual sport.

This is only a small portion of the line following Santa as the Reno Toy Run began.

Heading south down Market Street they formed a long line behind Santa as they began the Toy Run. Some of the bikes even had had toys strapped on them and will be donated at the end of the Toy Run.

Over the next couple of weeks local charities will either have toys or money to help with their efforts to bring a Happy Christmas to those in need.

Next year, once again, riders will assemble for the 45th Annual Reno Toy Run to help area charities.
