RENO, NV (Nov. 27) — Here we are, Thanksgiving week and on Sunday we head into December. While virtually all racing is about to take a short pause there are still car meets and cruises to enjoy.
CAR MEETS:
• Since this is Thanksgiving weekend I’m not going to mention some events that usually happen every week as I’m not sure they will this time. So I’ll jump right into the weekend.
• Saturday, from 9 until 11 a.m. is when the Fernley Klazzic Kruizers have their Christmas for the Kids. Location is Red’s BBQ in Fernley.
• Sunday has two meets that start at 10 a.m. in Reno.
- Reno Cars & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee Stand that is close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes. Should be good weather as there is usually a pretty good variety of cars and trucks on display.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee Stand on the corner of Longely Lane and South McCarren. A good time to be with fellow Jeep owners.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• While tracks and series in our region are shut down until spring there is still some racing to be seen. Of course most will be in the “Re-Run Zone” so it’s a good time to catch up.
- Among the sites are www.mavtv.com, www.floracing.com, www.dirtvision.com and www.youtube.com. Mavtv usually some races that happen during the winter as does Floracing so be sure to check those sites.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• REP Racing MX is taking Thursday off but will has practice sessions at its tracks this weekend. For those wishing to practice Sunday at the Sandbox in Fernley remember you must sign up at www.repracingmx.com.
• MMX Racing has a busy schedule as they have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday on the Main, Sand & Kid’s Tracks.
- Saturday’s sessions run from 9 until 2 p.m. with practice on the Main and Kid’s tracks while SOT has a Private Ride day on the Sand Track. Then on Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. all the tracks, including the Vintage will be open for practice.
• E Street MX Park is closed Friday but on Saturday and Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice.
BLACK FRIDAY AND SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
• This weekend two motorcycle shops that sponsor this site have specials. Hope you will give them your consideration.

RACING (INTERNATIONAL):
• After racing in Las Vegas the Formula 1, Formula 2 and the Apprentice series packed up and headed half way around the world to Qatar. There is also another series that is racing internationally.
Wednesday/Thursday:
•Over in Australia the FIM World Supercross Championship started this past weekend. Fox Sports 1 has the first motos starting at midnight Wednesday that runs into Thursday. Then at 2 a.m. Thursday the network airs the second moto.
Friday:
• ESPN’s networks carry the load this weekend in Qatar.
- At 3:05 a.m. Friday they show Formula 2 Practice. Then at 5:25 a.m. ESPNU had Formula 1 practice.
- ESPN + coms on at 8:10 and has Formula 2 qualifying. Then ESPN+ and ESPNNews team up to broadcast Formula 1 Sprint Qualifying.
Saturday:
- ESPN 2 comes on at 5:45 a.m. with the Formula 1 Sprint Race. Then after some preparation both ESPN News and ESPN+ broadcast Formula 1 qualifying.
Sunday:
- ESPN 2 carries the load on this day. Broadcast begins at 6:30 a.m. with the Pre-Race Show then at 7:55 they broadcast the Grand Prix of Qatar from the newly refurbished LoSail Formula 1 Circuit.
That’s it for this weekend. Hope your Thanksgiving was good one. If possible be sure to get out to one of the car meets or cruises. You’ll meet some great people as well as see some wonderful cars and trucks.

OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Sadly I have to start with some somber news. This week we lost two legends in motorcycle and car racing.
- Mary McGee, also know as Motorcycle Mary, passed away Wednesday at her home in Gardnerville. She came out of car racing, was the first women to hold an FIM license, first woman to race the Baja 1000 as well as the first and maybe only woman to race the Baja 500 solo on a motorcycle.
- Mary is also in several Halls of Fame including the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame where she was inducted in 2023.
- On Tuesday Malcolm Smith passed away at his home in Southern California. He too was a legend in off-road motorcycle racing. And in 1978 he was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.
- We here at nvracingnews extend our condolences to their families, friends and legion of fans. These two will be missed but left a trail of wonderful memories behind them.
• Davey’s American Racing keeps track of not only west coast racing but national series as well.
Not only does he post racing announcements but usually starting in the spring will have a webcast. He can be found on Face Book and posts during the week.
