RENO, NV (Nov. 20) — Well it’s almost Thanksgiving weekend and racing is over in our region although there are still car meets and maybe a cruise. With stormy weather headed our way things could get iffy so it’s best to check first.
CAR MEETS:
• I’m told the Thursday meet with the Iron Mafia happens rain or shine. So at 8 a.m. they’ll meet at Kim’s Donut and Tea house at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• The White House NV in Carson City still has the Friday and Saturday even cruises scheduled. Meeting place is at 402 E Telegraph St. but I’d call just to be sure as the weather might not cooperate.
• The Fernley Friday Night Meet will start at 5 p.m. at the 76th Station. Once again weather might be a deciding factor.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee ends the month with their meet by the Starbucks on Disc Drive. Starts at 10 a.m. and again the weather might be a deciding factor however if it happens there is usually a pretty good mix of cars, trucks and even a few motorcycles.
RACING (4-WHEEL)
• Off-Road racers get one more shot before the New Year arrives. Legacy Racing stages the 4WP Desert Showdown in Pahrump. The dates are December 5 to 8 and registration is now open.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
Note: Once again check before you leave as the incoming weather will have an impact.
• REP Racing MX has a shortened schedule this week due to the expected weather. However the Sandbox MX in Fernley will have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. Be sure to register at www.repracingmx.com.
• Rounds 5 and 6 for the 2024 Triple Crown series has been canceled. They will issue an adjusted schedule in the near future.
• E Street MX Park will have an update Friday on the track’s Face Book page.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL)
• While we’re not in the Rerun Zone yet it’s not far away. This weekend Formula 1 takes center stage.
I should mention that all the times I list are Pacific Standard Time.
• On Thursday ESPN+ at 6:25 p.m. has Formula 1 practice from Las Vegas. Then at 9:55 p.m. ESPN airs the next practice session.
• Friday at 6:25 p.m. ESPN+ has the next practice session. ESPN comes on at 9:55 p.m. with Formula 1 qualifying.
• On Saturday ESPN at 8:30 p.m. has the Pre-Race show and at 9:55 p.m. ESPN and ESPN+ has the Las Vegas Formula 1 race and at midnight ESPN3.com has F1 Checkered Flag.
• Sunday is a quiet day but at noon The CW network has the 2024 NASCAR Awards ceremony from Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Preview is short this time so we’ll have to see what happens with the weather and its effect on regional car meets.
Have a safe weekend everyone and be careful if you have to drive in the weather. Hope to see all of you next week.
