RENO, NV (Oct. 30) — Well today is two things, Halloween and the actual Nevada Day. There are also a couple of more Trunk or Treat happenings as well as car meets. On TV two major series are heading into their final weeks before the champions are announced,
CAR MEETS:
• Once again the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling, or maybe splashing with an 8 a.m. start. Location is Kim’s Donut and Tea House at 1328 U.S 395 North in Gardnerville
• The White House NV hosts Friday and Saturday cruises. Times are 6 until 9 p.m. and the meeting place is 402 E. Telegraph Street in Carson City.
- That evening, probably depending on the weather the Friday Night Meet at Fernley gets going. Starts at 6 p.m. at the 76th Station.
• Saturday, starting at 3:30 p.m. the Nevada Jeep Club has its 2nd Annual Bonfire. They ask people to bring wood, chairs and dress warm. Location is 11520 Campo Rico in Sparks..
- For those that want to keep Halloween going Fallon Cars ‘N’ Coffee has joined forces with the Alley Bar for a two-tier Trunk Or Treat on Saturday. Location is 1555 South Taylor St.
- The kids have their part from 4 to 6 p.m. then from 8 until 11 p.m. it’s for the adults. There are raffles in each part and costume contests for both the kids and adults.
- Here in Reno the EVO Club, starting at 6 p.m., is having its final meet for the year. Location is the parking lot next to the golf driving range at the Grand Sierra.
• Two groups have meets, and both start at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee stand located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarren.
- Not far away Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the year. Location is near the Human Bean Coffee stand by the corner of Moana and Keitrzke Lanes,
Trunk Or Treat & Halloween:
- Note: Going to deviate from my usual format as I want to get these events in. Of course it will depend on the weather.
• Saturday, from 5 until 8 p.m., the Salvation Army is hosting what they call Neewollah Safe Trunk or Treat. There will e candy, games, bounce houses at this family friend event and the location is 1931 Sutro Street at the intersection with Oddie Blvd.
- That same evening the Faith Ministry, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. is staging a Halloween Safe Trunk Or Treat. There will be candy, games, prizes and the location is 2301 Kings Row.
– Virginia City has a huge celebration on Halloween. Registration is at VC Jerky starting at 4:30, the parade starts at 5, they have a costume contest then the stores on C Street have Trick or Treats for the youngsters.
- On Saturday, even thought it’s early, there is the Carson City Toy Run for the two-wheel set. Sign in begins at 10 a.m. at Carson Custom Cycles then the ride begins at noon and ends at Battle Born Harley-Davidson.
- If one is looking for places to take your youngsters for Trick or Treats please check the Reno Nevada Community Face Book page. There was a discussion about this and people came up with many suggestions for places in Reno and Sparks.
- If people have left over candy Blue Star Mothers is a great place to donate it. They’ll use it in care packages for the troops.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
- This weekend REP Racing MX has a full schedule including Riverfront MX, Prairie City is closed for the Lilliputian Race. The Fernley Sandbox MX has practice Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. but one must register at www.repracingmx.com.
- E Street MX Park has practice Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the front and back tracks,
Sunday is a Memorial Ride Day from 9 until 2 p.m. to benefit the family of Bruce Thinger.
- MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Main, Sand and Kid’s Track. Sunday is from 9 until 3 pm. and the Vintage track is added to the mix.
- Next round of the 2024 AMP Triple Crown series will be held at Oatfield Raceway. Saturday and Sunday are race days.
- RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 8 p.m. is when Fox Sports 2 presents Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
• There are two weeks go to in NASCAR’s season, this year they will race at Martinsville, also known as the “Paper Clip,” do its shape.
This week ran across a broadcast schedule for NASCAR. I believe the rectangle items are for NBC Sports App. Also CW Entertainment is the network now caring the Xfinity races.
• Saturday begins at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 Sprint Race from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Then at 10:55 a.m. ESPN News carried Formula 1 qualifying
- TruTv comes on at 11 a.m. with the MotoGP sprint race from Malaysia.
• Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m. when TruTv broadcast the MotoGP race from Malaysia.
- Then at 8:54 a.m. ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race from Sao Paulo. This series also getting to its final races for this season.
- This week NHRA is in Las Vegas for the Ford Performance Nationals. Fox Sports 1 carries the load and at noon Sunday they show NHRA Qualifying Show #1,
- Then at 2 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Las Vegas Nationals from the Strip. If all goes well John Force will be present supporting his three-car team.

OTHER RACING NEWS:
• If you’re in a car club here is a heads up about this. On November 10th Nevada Car Coalition is having a Calendar Planning Meeting at the National Auto Museum. The goal is to have meets next year scheduled so they don’t conflict with each other. There is another meeting slated for early next year.
• Two weekends from now is the final round of this year’s BBMX series. Its at the Sandbox Fernley MX and sign ups are now open. The practice session this Sunday is a great way to tune up.
- Part of most BBMX events is the popular Stacyc race for the youngest riders. Sign ups are now open and the race is on Saturday using a special short course.
• Northern Nevada racer Mary McGee now has a video about her exploits. She’s the first women to hold a FIM License, first person to do the Baja 500 solo on a bike and she’s in three different halls of fame. It’s going to be on ESPN 2 at 2 p.m. Sunday.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
