RENO, NV (Oct. 23) — About to close out October but this year, at least in Nevada, Halloween comes a bit early. So there is a bunch to preview.
CAR MEETS:
• We’ll start with these. As usual the Iron Mafia has its weekly meet starting at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donut and Tea House located at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
- Down in Carson City there’s a cruise from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Meeting place is The White House NV located at 402 E. Telegraph Street.
- To the east, starting around 6 p.m. is the weekly Friday Fernley Car Meet. Location is the 76th Station.
- Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has its next meet. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive. Going north on Pyramid go past McCarren, over the hill and turn right on Disc, the Starbucks is on you right.
TRUNK OR TREAT:
• Here is the list for these happening this weekend.
- To the south on Friday the Ranchos Trunk or Treat happens at the Sierra View Lanes. Times are 3 until 7 p.m. and the bowling center is located at 1281 Kimmerling in Gardnerville.
- Another Friday event, from 5 until 8 p.m. is the Off-Road Halloween Party at the Sparks Off Road Warehouse. Location is 140Victorian Avenue, located between McCarren and Pyramid.
• There are also several Saturday events locally and they usually have awards for the best decorated car or truck. The owners have to supply their own candy however.
- 1,2, Tea Presents Trunk or Treat. Starts at 3 p.m. and the location is 199 Damonte Ranch Parkway.
- Another Trunk Or Treat runs from 3 until 5 and again there are prizes for the best decorated vehicle. Location is 5405 Meadowood Mall Circle.
- From 4 until 7 p.m. at Reno Town Mall, Northern Nevada Classics presents another Trunk or Treat. There will be prizes for the top two decorated vehicles.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Currently there are no oval track or drag races scheduled.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• REP Racing has a full schedule this weekend.
- Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is Sierra Oldtimers Ride day then Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is open practice.
- Prairie City MX from 9 until 2 p.m. has open practice Saturday and Sunday.
- The Fernley Sandbox MX has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. With the final round of the BBMX season coming up in two weeks, it’s a great way to get in shape for that final round. Remember you have to register at www.repracingmx.com.
• The Triple Crown series starts this weekend at Argyll MX. The series runs into December and for further information please check, check www.ampgfimx.com.
• E Street MX ends its 2024 SXS Series this weekend. The series race is on Saturday with practice beginning at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.
- On Saturday there is also a Halloween Costume contest, a Mechanics race, Trailer Decorating and Trick or Treat. Sunday’s practice starts at 8 a.m.
• MMX Racing should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Main, Sand & Kid’s Tracks. Then on Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. although Moto Mike MX Training will use the main track.
- If one wants further training Moto Mike MX Training will be at Riverfront MX on Thursday then at MMX Racing on Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 6 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
• Friday is an empty day but there are other places to check for racing and maybe highlights from ones a person has missed.
- Some are www.speedsport.tv, www.mavtv.com, www.dirtvision.com, www.floracing.com and www.youtube.com.
• Saturday starts at 6 a.m. when NBC Sports App as NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Homestead-Miami.
- TruTv at 7:30 a.m. has the MotoGP sprint race from Thailand.
- Fox Sports 1 comes on at 9 a.m. with the Craftsman Truck series race from Homestead-Miami. Then at 1 p.m. CW Entertainment airs the Xfinity race from there.
- ESPN News at 1:55 p.m. has Formula 1 qualifying from Mexico City.
• Sunday starts at 7:30 a.m. TruTv has the MotoGP race from Thailand.
- Then NBC comes on at 11:30 a.m. with the NASCAR Cup race from Homestead-Miami. Once again it’s another elimination race leading to the final four in the playoffs.
- The day ends at 1 pm. when ESPN News airs the Formula 1 race from Mexico City.
That’s it for this week. If you have a youngster remember the Trunk or Treat functions. Nice safe way to start the candy supply.
The Nevada Day Parade in Carson City gets going around 10 a.m. and there are usually several cars as part of the parade.

• Just a head’s up but Rattlesnake Raceway has its awards banquet on Saturday, November 9th at the Eagles Hall that is located west of town on the Reno Highway.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
