RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: OCT 17 TO 20

RENO, NV (Oct. 16) — We’re getting our first blast of real fall weather this week. But the weekend will be mild and dry for racing as well as Show ‘N Shine events in our region

NOTE: Several meets might be affected by the weather and/or temperature.

CAR MEETS:

Iron Mafia starts the weekend Thursday at Kim’s Donut and Tea Shop, Photo Rory Planeta

• Thursday gets an early start, at 8 a.m., when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Friday Fernley Meet starts around 6 p.m. at the 76th Station, Photo courtesy Cory Hawkins.

• The Friday Fernley Meet should get going around 6 p.m. and the meeting place is the 76th Station.

Fallon Cars & Coffee has its final meet of the year on Saturday.

• Saturday starts at 8:30 a.m. when Fallon Cars “N” Coffee has its final meet of the year. Location is the Alley Bar at 1555 S. Taylor Street. There is also a cruise.

Tahoe Cars & Coffee has its final meet of the year on Saturday.
  • Lake Tahoe Cars & Coffee has its season ending meet on Saturday. Times are 10 to noon and the location is 595 Tahoe Keys Blvd, Suite A2 in South Lake Tahoe.
Binders for Boobies is having a benefit for Moms on the Run.
  • For International vehicle fans there is Binders for Boobies from 11 until 4 p.m. Location is the Final Draught at 538 Sparks Blvd. The event is a benefit for Moms on the Run.

• Sunday begins with two meets with 10 a.m. starting times.

  • Reno Jeeps and Coffee is at the Human Bean Coffee stand located at the corner of Longely Lane and South McCarran.
Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet on Sunday.
  • Reno Cars and Coffee wmeets by the Human Bean Coffee stand located by the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.
All car clubs are invited to the meeting Nevada Car Coalition is having Sunday at the Auto Museum.

• There is an important meeting hosted by the Nevada Car Coalition at the National Auto Museum in Reno. All car clubs are invited. The goal is planning for next May’s Summer Salute at Rancho San Rafael Park. This is a benefit for veterans.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Drifting returns to the Reno Fernley Raceway on Satdurday.

• For those that are into drifting there is a meet on Saturday at the Reno Fernley Raceway Park. Maximum Overdrive has two courses, one short and one long on the road course.

  • Things get started at 8 a.m. although camping Friday night is permitted.
Desert racers will be in action this weekend at the Best in the Desert event.

• To the south, the Best in the Desert series is presenting the Laughlin Desert Classic. The action begins on Thursday, runs through Friday with Saturday being race day and awards are handed out Sunday.

Want to learn about kart racing? If so make plans to attend the NNKC Community Day this Sunday.

• The Northern Nevada Kart Club is having the Inaugural Community Day. Great way to learn about kart racing and there are free kart rides.

         – Times are 10 to 3 p.m. and the location is Desert Park Raceway located about a quarter mile up the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):

The Gold Diggers MC ends the MRANN season near Elko this weekend.

The Gold Diggers MC ends MRANN’s 2024 season in the Elko area with the Haulin Gold GP. Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. is when the youngest Pee Wee’s race followed by older Pee Wees. Then the Minis race and day ends with the Women, Bombers and Vintage Race.

  • Sunday starts at 9 a.m. when the big bikes tackle a long course. First is the Novice Class followed y the Amateurs then the Expert and AA Classes end the day and season.
The next to last race in the 2024 season is this Sunday. Sign ups are now open.

• Over the hill at E-Street MX Park is where Round 10 of the Battle Born MX series will be run. Practice is Saturday while Sunday is race day. Signups are now open.

REP Racing MX has a full schedule this weekend.

• REP Racing has a full schedule for this weekend.

  • Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Saturday is the final round of the Saturday Night Series with the awards ceremony on Sunday.
  • Prairie City MX has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Fernley Sandbox MX has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday. Be sure to register for this at www.repracingmx.com,

• MMX Racing is also busy this weekend. On Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks with AHRMA practice on the Vintage Track.

MMX Racing, in addition to having practice sessions has an AHRMA race on Sunday.
  • Sunday there is open practice from 9 until 3 on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. The Vintage track is the site of the AHRMA NW Motion Pro Regional Vintage MX.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday the USA Network starting at 3:30 p.m. has Xfinity practice and qualifying from Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

  • At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

• Friday is an open day but race fans can see highlights of events they may have missed on www.floracing.com, www.mavtv.com and www.youtube.com.

• Saturday begins at 5 a.m. when mavtv has the World Superbike race from Spain. Then at 1:30 p.m. the USA Network has NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Las Vegas.

  • At 2:55 p.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 qualifying from Circuit of the Americas (COTA) outside of Austin, Texas.
  • At 4:30 p.m. CWTV has the Xfinity race from Las Vegas. Then TruTV at 8:30 p.m. airs the MotoGP Sprint race from Phillips Island.

• Sunday starts bright and early at 5 a.m. when mavtv airs the second World Super Bike race from Spain.

  • At noon ABC broadcasts the Formula 1 race from COTA. As their season is drawing to a close every point a driver earns is important.

  • At 11:30 NBC airs the NASCAR Cup race from Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This should be another elimination race so where a driver is critical if they want to continue in the playoffs.

  • Finally the day ends when TruTV broadcasts the MotoGP event from Phillips Island.

That’s it for this weekend. Remember the cold temperatures and weather could affect the car meets through Saturday morning. After that things warm up again.

• In a little over two weeks Rattlesnake Raceway has its award’s banquet. Always a great even while class champions are crowned and the Eagles Hall is on the west side of town.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
